I'm no Atkins expert by any means, but I did submit the raw egg digestibility post. I don't know about others on the plan, but whenever I consume this shake, I only count 50% of the protein to my totals. The experiment was pretty clear cut on the conclusion.

Ice is a MUST for me. Otherwise it has that raw eggy taste in the back of my throat.

It does appear that cooked egg proteins are better ingested than raw egg proteins. However, this doesn't concern me as I get plenty of protein from other sources throughout the day, and in fact, having "less" protein from my eggs helps run less of a risk that excess protein is converted to glucose.

Yup, I guess if you're overconsuming protein, then raw eggs will provide more of a balance.

There is an old study that suggested that cooked egg whites were better digestible than raw, They only served egg white to a few people and come up with some conclusion

I think this is an issue only worth obsessing with if you are a body builder and you super worry about protein absorption. Personally I worry about eating too much protein.

YES - I use a lot of ice in whatever variation I come up with.

Ok, I have read all the post and all I could think about was Rocy Balboa drinking his raw eggs when he started training.
Soooo, I came home this evening and put three raw eggs in the blender, some heavy cream, splenda, nutmeg, vanilla, ice and whiped it up.

Hearing Rocky music in the background, I took a sip, Knockout! it is really good.
I added a little more nutmeg and allspice. just a dash to start.
No slim taste, no yuk taste, good milkshake taste.

                  Try it

                    Hi all
everyone has some really cool variations! a couple of times when i was feeling a little more generous with my carbs i added a few berries, or a little piece of banana. yumm.
how does the shake work for people in terms of fullness? I've been having it regularly for breakfast, and it makes me feel pretty full for a long while. has anyone had that too? or different?
I also found the article on digestibility, and decided to throw in a couple more eggs into my shake to counteract what I might be losing. I'm a student, so I got on the medical databases to search from more sources. I found research only by one researcher, and very few people had cited him in the 10 years since it was published. I don't find any other studies about the same thing. so, I'm going to take it with a grain of salt.
I'm glad people have been enjoying the shake! I'm off to make mine

This was mentioned a few pages back, so I can understand if you didn't see it - but I would definitely buy a carton of Better'n Eggs (I have like 3 in my fridge currently - I love the eggshake!). You can find it right next to EggBeaters in your supermarket. I didn't see it at the Target I went to, but all the Wal-marts I checked had it in stock. The Better'n Eggs is pasteurized, so it makes me feel a bit safer...

Oh, and DON'T use EggBeaters (already mentioned in this thread, too). They have some seasoning added, so it throws off the taste.

But also keep in mind that going this route takes out all of the fat, so you will need to make that up somewhere.

Very valid point. And aren't you really only supposed to count 50% of the protein since the egg isn't cooked? I wonder if that just applies when the yolks are present...

I've been making my own eggnog for a while now and it is Great Stuff!

I got the idea from the Wikipedia entry for "Ketogenic Diet". Apparently it is a classic induction food for those on prescribed a Ketogenic Diet (doctors will prescribe it for seizure control).

There's a recipe on the Wikipedia page:
Ketogenic diet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

                                Here's the recipe listed:
Ketogenic "eggnog" is used during induction and is a drink with the required ketogenic ratio. For example, a 4:1 ratio eggnog would contain 60 g of 36% heavy whipping cream, 25 g egg, vanilla and saccharin flavour. This contains 245 calories, 4 g protein, 2 g carbohydrate and 24 g fat (24:6 = 4:1)
I use Splenda as the sweetener and add Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cocoa & Vanilla.

The first time I made it my wife thought I was going to get food poisoning, but nothing of the sort happened. And I have no qualms about the raw eggs. After all I eat Sushi & Sashimi all the time and I don't worry about that. Just make sure your hands are clean and drink it while it's fresh. I usually rinse off the eggshells before cracking them too.

I don't really follow the recipe above, I just throw in 2-4 eggs depending on how much I want, splash in a couple oz of Heavy Whipping Cream and then add the Splenda & spices. I usually pour it into a cup w/ ice. Also, I use a shaker/blender bottle instead of an electric blender, easier to clean and quicker than getting out the blender.

It's good mixed with coffee too, although I usually drink my coffee black since studies that have shown that most of the health benefits of coffee & tea are lost when mixed with dairy. ( BBC NEWS | Health | Milk in tea 'blocks health gains' )

Ketogenic Eggnog deffinitely makes a great desert too when you have a sweet craving.
