    Re: eggnog shake for breakfast!!!

OK, I'm going to try it... I found a low carb recipe:

    2 eggs
    1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
    1/4 water
    2 packets splenda
    1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
    3 ice cubes
    1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

    Makes 16 oz. shake

    ==========

I put this stuff into fitday and got back:

    calories 575
    fat 58
    carbs 6
    protein 17

I put it in the mixer, I tasted it and I'm amazed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, I'm one of the converted ones...

EDIT: - An hour later I got quite sick... stomach cramping and nausea... not sure if it was the eggs or the cream...

      Re: eggnog shake for breakfast!!!

Okay, when I initially read this post, my jaw hit the floor and as dark as my skin is I'm sure I must have turned some shade of green. I'm sure I have read every post, and recipe add-on and variation to this shake so I am going to put on my big girl panties and give this a whirl as soon as I get in this evening. I'm a little nervous but I'm going to try this because if I like it then it's really going to open some doors for me with breakfast.I simply cannot resist the opportunity to get in the extra protein!
I'll report tomorrow and thanks so much for sharing all of your wonderful ideas!

I saw this post about a month ago & thought yuck too. I don't really like the smell of raw eggs but this shake really doesn't have an egg smell. I use 3 eggs, 2 Tablespoon of heavy cream (I started with 4 Tablespoons), vanilla extract & 4 drops liquid splenda with 7 ice cubes. I have this shake abt half hour before the gym on Sat & Sun morning for breakfast.

          Re: eggnog shake for breakfast!!!

I saw this recipe for cooked eggnog so I guess you could modify the recipe to be carb free .

Start by assembling six large eggs, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 quart whole milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/8 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg.

Even though we will be cooking the eggs, we won't be holding the eggs at a high temperature for very long. Be sure to check you eggs for any cracks or blemishes and wash them before cracking them. In fact, you should do this for any egg you plan on eating and throw away any eggs that seem questionable to you.

Crack the eggs into a medium saucepan. Beat with the sugar until the color of the egg lightens.

Add about two cups of milk and cook over low heat while stirring constantly.

When the mixture (which is really just a simple custard) starts to thicken up a bit and is able to coat the back of a spoon, remove from the heat.

Allow the mixture to sit for about 5 minutes. The mixture should be around 160°F and the resting period will help give time to kill off a lot of the unwanted bacteria (but not all because of the relatively low heat and short waiting time). Five minutes isn't long enough for the temperature to drop low enough for the bacteria to find the conditions favorable for reproduction.

Add the remaining milk to the mixture and stir in the vanilla extract and nutmeg.

Chill in the refrigerator for at least four hours.

          Serve cold within 24 hours.

Ok, even I tried this today. I skipped the splenda. Not bad at all. The whole raw eggs thing skeeved me out, so I bought some cage-free/organic ones to at least minimize what appears to be an already minimal salmonella risk. My stomach "questioned" these eggs for a few minutes, but otherwise, no ill effects.

Great recipe. Gonna try it tomorrow. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but you probably want to skip giving sips to your one-year old. Salmonella in infants is alot more serious than the consequences we as adults can usually handle.

Tried this for dinner tonight, I don't like eating heavy meals after 7.

I must say, soooo good! I was a little wary of the egginess but it's only smooth and delicious. Threw a couple ice cubes in and a splash of coconut davincis, and a tablespoon of flaxseed meal to get my fiber. Yum!

Excellent. I didn't mean to alarm you, but I got a little one, too, and those little people tend to be more sensitive to those things. Salmonella is relatively rare, so I'm not surprised you saw no ill effects in your little one.
