  • Re: OWLERS "Stepping Back" thread

    Emma, congratulations!!! Way to go!

Mitzi, rough day yesterday, but today will be better.

OK, I have a problem and that is getting my fat percentages to be where they need to be on days when I have a glass of wine. I generally get about 2000 calories in per day. However, if I have a glass of wine with dinner, it throughs my percent of calories from carbs higher, because it has a higher calorie content than other carbs. Conversely it brings down my fat percentages.

What I shoot for is to have 110 grams of fat (which without wine would put my % at 50) , 150 grams of protein (which puts me spot on at 30%), and I try to get at least 25 grams of fiber in per day. Right now I am at 65 net carbs, so I try not to get less than 64 and no more than 66.

Here is what I had for breakfast this morning.

    3 large eggs
    2 slices Hormel microwaveable bacon
    4 oz soy milk
    3/4 cups of Cherrios
1/2 cup of small curd cottage cheese 4%
    1/2 of a large nectarine
    1 packet of Splenda

565 calories, 30 net carbs, 30 grams of fat, 43 grams pf protein

I kinda skipped lunch....I did have 3 oz of sugar snap peas but that could hardly be considered lunch...was busy working in the yard then had to run out for a bit and by the time I got back it was dinner time. Ooops.

            Dinner consisted of:
2 small chicken breasts cubed and fried with 1 tsp of Montreal Steak Spice Marinade Rub, 1 tbsp of sour cream and 1 oz of cream cheese.
2 cups cooked cauliflower with 2 oz of imperial sharp cheese mixed with 1 tbsp of heavy whipping cream.

Drank 2 more 16 oz bottles of water sofar with a plan on 1 more before the day is through.

            Fitday totals look like:
            Total Calories 1146
            Fat 54%
            Carbs 9%
            Protein 37%

I may have a bit of MUP later if I'm hungry, if so I will post.

                  • Re: OWLERS "Stepping Back" thread

                    Hi

I'm really not crazy about going out to eat breakfast, but my husband and son look forward to it every weekend. We went to IHOP this morning. I know not to get the omelettes there because they put pancake batter in them to make them fluffy. At least now they admit doing that on their menu. Just about anything you order comes with pancakes but they do have a low carb section with a couple of options now that leave off the pancakes. I got the one that came with 4 eggs (which I get fried; don't like scrambled), couple of pieces of bacon, couple of pieces of link sausage, and a couple of strips of ham. I ate all of it. And the thing is, it wasn't like I felt stuffed or anything when we finished. I've been pretty pissed at myself for having it, because I'm sure that all of the meat had some sugar in it... not much, but I don't normally eat that stuff. The bacon that I have occasionally at home on my loaded cauliflower is sugar-free. So, I am aggravated that I ate processed meat that probably had sugar in it. I was also mad that I used up so many calories on a meal that provided *zero* grams of fiber. I "stew" over mistakes for a long time... I'm just getting over it now.

Weigh day is tommorow... wish it had been today before I ate what I did. I'm afraid it's going to affect me. Oh, well... it's done. And, stupid-a$$ TOM is still hanging around! This is day 8. I've developed a pattern of it staying away for 6 to 8 weeks, then it comes and lingers. Grrrr

Looks like I'm not the only one who didn't eat much today. (except for my pig-out at IHOP)

Breakfast - 4 fried eggs, 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage links, 2 strips of ham

                    Lunch - MUP with almonds

Dinner - 1 cup jicama, 1 serving of sugar snap peas, 1 whole medium cucumber, 1 ounce of cheddar cheese

I was determined to get my veggies in!

                    Fitday Totals:
                    1467 calories
                    32 net carbs, 20 of those veggie (57g carbs - 25g fiber = 32 net carbs)

Hey Mitzi don't stress out over breakfast...it was one meal right. Its over, move on girl...
You did great the rest of the day and your numbers came out good.
I hear you about TOM...its crazy and I think a combination of our age and this way of eating.
I re-started Atkins on May 1/07 and TOM visited me on May 15...so then he went on an extended leave until August 15 and boy when he came back he sure made up for it. 7 days and can you say "I need a transfusion"! Haven't seen him since he left. Who knows anymore! I'm so ready to just move on to full blown menopause already...sheesh.
Can't wait to hear your weigh in results tomorrow. Think positive!

It is just that male metabolism. I know it is so much harder for you girls. It doesn't seem right that even with my lower weight, that I am still burning that many calories. Makes me wonder how in the world was I able to eat so much before!

Here is the rest of what I had today.

                        Lunch

                        Dinner
1 roast beef sandwich: 4 oz roast beef, 1 slice of swiss cheese, 1.5 tbsp mayo, 1 roma tomato, 2 slices of low carb bread
Salad: 4 cups of romaine lettuce, 6 cherry tomatoes, 1/8 large orange bell pepper, 2 tbsp blue cheese

                        Additional
                        1 oz of almonds

Mitzi--don't freak about IHOP. You don't have to eat veggies at every meal, you know. People are encouraged on induction to eat veggies at each meal to spread out the carbs throughout the day. When you get into the rungs, you have a bit more freedom of what you eat, when you eat it. So you had carbs with breakfast, carbs with lunch, and carbs with dinner. No big whoop. We still love you.

Don--I wouldn't worry about upping your fat percentages when you drink alcohol. I might be wrong, but the body processes alcohol very similarly to the way in processes fat--or at least, when we drink alcohol we don't get knocked out of ketosis. Our bodies burn the alcohol and resume fat burning. And if you're on a low-fat-type plan (at least a couple I've seen), alcohol counts as a "fat" serving because of the way it's processed in the body. So perhaps if you add the fat and alcohol percentages for the day, that can count as "fat" percentage. Just keep your protein around 30% and watch your carb grams--that's what I've always done when drinking alcohol. And anyway, anything we eat is going to get stored until the alcohol's gone...

I didn't eat very much today either. Darn football games in college towns. (Long story.)

                            B: mushroom-sausage-bacon-pepper-onion omelette, 1/2 piece wheat toast, 10 grapes
L: small salad with ranch dressing

D: 2 cups green beans, chocolate "mousse"

You'll have to forgive my rather lackluster day of food. I spend the first half of my day in a workshop and the second half driving in my jeep...
