    Re: Buddy List June 24-29

welcome Splandrea and Andrea!! we are so happy you have joined us! You will see we can sometimes support each other several times a day...LOL! What stage of Atkins are you on??

Tomorrow...Wipe that sweat off your brow...you don't get to count any of it as your milage..LOL!
    Re: Communion..
Prissy says...When I take communion I consume only a tiny amount of cracker and juice. Reducing your overall carbs the day before might help too.

You can also reduce the frequency of communion for yourself...a common opinion is that if you do it every week it becomes routine and we tend to lose the attitude of reverence and gratitude we should maintain during the experience. So if you still had problems you would only have to face it once a month.

Thedogatemyname says...The Lord's Supper is one of those times where I just don't count carbs. I'll drink the juice and the cracker. The importance of this is much more to me than the carb count. I have a feeling Jesus will work it all out

Irishmom82 says...Contrary to a lot of "beliefs" you actually do not need to consume the body and blood for the communion to count. If the bread/cracker is causing you cravings just have small sip of the wine.

For you to fulfill the Sacrament of Communion you need to consume either the bread or wine, you do not need to have both. Try just taking the wine and see if that causes cravings.

This is all according to the Catholic Faith. I can find a source if you would like it.

Val...well see..I didn't exactly find this spot all by myself...It all started when I smacked a flopping negative fish and he pushed me back...and with a little help from Elizellen....here is where I and we landed. Home artificial sweetner Home. Hmmm...just doesn't have the same ring to it does it? Oh well...all tastes the same once you add the drool! Keep working!

        Re: Buddy List June 24-29

        Hi Ellie,

Wow, wow, wow, about all that communion stuff. I actually didn't really "worry" about it, it was just an internal discussion that Yeshua and I were having a little giggle about. He assured me it was mystically carb free.....and no, I didn't get any cravings because of it. Interesting it's such a serious issue though.....

My favorite challenge would have to be.....the speed bag I think. I didn't start the challenges until Jun 11th (except mileage, I had a bit of that in), and the speed bag even later than that, so I'm pretty proud of how much I've done. Plank it hard right now because I'm a bit on the heavy side, but it will come. I used to be able to do over a minute at a time, right now I have to take rests now and again. Jump rope is hard being heavier too. When I was boxing a few years ago we would do this for about half and hour as a warm up. Again, I was probably 40 pounds lighter...it makes a HUGE difference.

Everything comes back in time though, as the weight drops off and the heart strengthens up.

I think I started all of that communion hub-bub.
I think it was all in my head. The first sunday it "caused" me to cheat.
The second sunday, it did not cause any cravings at all.
          Anywho...

I am owl stage #1, this is only my second day of that. I have lost 12.2 pounds since I started induction 16 days ago. How awesome is that!? I am almost halfway to my weight goal of losing 90 pounds (combined with doing five months of weight watchers and only losing 26 pounds). I am actually starting to not mind what I look like in a bathing suit!

Tomorrow...I can see how that would be fun. I actually looked at them and a kick bag one at Christmas for my 11 yr son. Thought it would be a fun exercise. Don't want him to get into boxing though. May still do it. I am still thinking about it.

Splandrea..I know that there have been other posts about Communion...yours was just the most recent one so I grabbed that link. Lots of good answers in it.

Splandrea...Monie and I are also on our second day of OWL rung 1!! Good job on the weight lost so far! Did you know that on the days you are not trying your new veggies that you are to eat 5 carb grams of veggies off the acceptable induction veggie list?

              Re: Buddy List June 24-29

Thank you Elsie! I am glad to be here. I am on extended induction. Like I said I have started/stopped so so many times over the last 5 years that I feel I need to give my body a little longer to adapt because it is used to the lo-carb, so it hangs onto those first few pounds. But as soon as I was past the first few weeks the scale started to be a little nicer to me.

As far as communion goes, I look at it this way. Jesus wants me to have my hearts desire and to be healthy and if I have a quarter sized host and a thimble full of wine, I dont think that it will stop me considering I am honoring him. So I do it with thanks to him for my health and the ability to be on this WOL. But that is just me.

Andrea...There are a few buddies on this list that are going to do extended induction. So far just Monie and I moving on and now Splandrea. I am an advocate for climbing the rungs so I try to let people know that moving up to the first rung isn't too scary as it is just 5 more carb grams...8 BBQs asparagus spears...more. LOL!

Ooooo...asparagus..yum! You are right Elsie. I think I will move up 1 rung in about a week. I have read so many times that people who stayed on induction for a long time didnt lose as much as people who move up accordingly. So here goes. I will being moving on shortly. Oh and what do you guys think about swiss cheese?

Good for you Andrea. Read the stickies in the OWL forum and if you have any questions post them here and we will see if we can all learn something. My DD (10)LOVES asparagus and will eat a 1/2 pound all to herself if allowed. She is not going to be happy to be sharing! Swiss cheese....well I just bought some on Tuesday but haven't opened it yet. It is on the legal list. There are some quiche recipes that use it. Why do you ask?

Hmmm..first I would say to do a clean induction. So no alcohol. Sorry. Eat your cheese with something else...for instance your salad. Make sure you are getting your 2 cups of salad veggies (notice I didn't just say salad..that is right...you don't need to have 2 cups of lettuce...it is 2 cups of salad veggies...so have dip some cucumbers and mushrooms. And a bit of cheese. Also you need to have other cup of veggies as well. This will help with fiber and controlling your appetite. You are only on day 2. By the end of the week or so your appetite will diminish and that should help too.

Alcohol...fruits...dairy....summer...SIGH...why didn't I start in the spring!! A really really good reason to climb the rungs and not stay on induction. When you drink your body stops burning fat until it has burned off the alcohol. Is that a good reason not to drink? If you do...and I am not recommending it...read up on the alcohol part in DANDR...it will tell you what is acceptable. I still say commit to a clean 2 week induction or you really aren't being fair to yourself or doing Atkins. Drinking now could have a dramatic affect on the weight you drop your first 2 weeks.

The rungs are put in sort of a gycemic order I think. Things that will have the lowest impact on our body for us to try first. To help us learn and give us a better chance of success. I think some have juggled the 2,3 and 4 rungs around with moderate success but I don't think it is recommeded to jump to the 5 rung.

In the meantime...give yourself a stern talking too...tell yourself that you are more important than a drink...pour yourself some seltzer water or some club soda put a lime in it and pretend you are drinking a barcardi and soda with lime. No one is saying not to drink for forever...just for now. One day at a time.....just tell yourself....nah...not going to drink at this gathering today...maybe next time. And next time...tell yourself the same thing.

And before you think I am blowing smoke....I had to cap 30 bottles of wine the beginning of my second week of induction....I am telling myself it gets better with age...LOL!

hey everyone, looks like everyone is doing really well. Well i have done Atkins one and off since november/07 and lost some and gained some, so here i am back again hoping to get it right. I never went thru the rungs properly and i plan on trying it this time, i dont think atkins works right unless u do so bc u then realise u can eat for life when u gradually reintroduce "everyday " foods and hopefully less likely to fall off the wagon..... but then again what do i know i never got pass rung 1 ??

Well...I agree with you Tasha...the rungs play an important part in keeping the weight off. There is a lot of knowledge to learn on the rungs. The last 10 pounds are supposed to be taken off very slowly and we are to have already gone through all the rungs and foods by then. That takes time. The journey isn't about losing it fast...it is about learning to keep it off. (my profound quoteable of the day..LOL) Anyone (almost) can lose weight..we have all done it...lost it...gained it...lost it again and gained it again. See...easy....none of us have learned to keep it off. That is why we are here. You will do it this time. And now you have buddies to help you.

Okay...gotta go...pet day at school and then DD's violin lessons in the next town. Can't wait to read all the emails when I get back. Bill's eyes are going to pop out of his head when he finally gets on! We are on page 3 and 30 posts already!! I think I am going to like living here after all...a fine piece of real estate!!
