Sorry I didn’t post last night. I was wiped out by 10pm. I’ve been having some sciatica pain and am hoping that it will pass by tomorrow. Silly me, I mistakenly thought Bill might do the honors and post for me. Geesh…I can get him to mow the lawn, but a simple post, is that too much to ask? LOL!

Elsie, what breed of dog do you have? Mine is a chunky 7 year old Golden Retriever that still thinks he’s a puppy. Bill is a great cook, me (not so much). I’ll lend my private cook to you, if you promise not to ever give up! I feel like I know you, and many other the others, from Bill and Corinne’s discussions. I’m taking mini baby steps in learning how to prepare our favorite recipes. If Atkins is going to be our way of life, then it will help if I can make the staples and Bill can try making new things. And oh….that bit that DH mentioned about tying a string to the cat’s tail and putting the Halloween costume on him? LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL………I really did do that. Bill and Corinne just roll their eyes at me during those feline-fettish moments. It’s Sooooooo Funny! And, thanks for sticking up for me. Bill sometimes embellishes stories, especially when it involves me and the pets. LOL……..Just kidding Bill. I really do dress the animals up. It’s sick, I know.

Monie, thank you for giving me such a warm welcome, I’m so glad to be a part of this Atkins family. Bill tends to take the world on his shoulders. He personally holds himself responsible for everyone’s well being and success. I’m glad you and this group embraced him. It’s hard to provide support to people that seem to be so confident all the time, yet you and this group have managed to do exactly that for Bill. I am thankful for all that you’ve done for him. The support from this group is so strong that a domino effect has occurred positively impacting outside members as well. As a side note, have you thought about ordering those bikes from Walmart online?

Robin, New Hampshire is awesome, my brother-in-law Patrick Crothers grew up there. Just mentioning his name because you never know how small this world can be. Am glad you can find some meats you can eat. Do you miss the New England Seafood? I know I did when we moved away for a brief period in our lives. And good for you, sounds like you have a good handle on dealing with the ex. Elsie is right. Your son will eventually realize what his Dad is all about. And when that day comes you will experience true bliss!

Sugarsack, 19 pounds is awesome! Just the other day DH and I were in Home Depot picking up some weed killer. Try picking up 19 pounds worth of jugs. That’s a ton of weight. My arms were sore just picking up 16 pounds of it. Bill had to take the jugs from me. Thank God for strong Hubbies! I’m proud of you and glad to be giving and taking support with you. BTW, Bill has been to almost every country in the world. I married a real man-of-the-world! I have a suggestion for you on the exercise that Bill started me on. Start with warm up exercises to get your muscles and ligaments limber. You know, those pesky exercises like stretching your legs and arms, bending side to side, etcetera. Just starting off with those along with breathing correctly can make a huge difference. Bill got me a pedometer to measure my steps. That’s what started me going 10 weeks ago. Although, I still walk about the distance, it led me into the warm ups. If, I didn’t fracture my pelvis, I would be a lot further in on this process by now. So, if I can do it, you can too!

Brittini, you sound so much like my daughter. Hang in there, and don’t ever think its ok for others to trash your well being. Be strong, hold your ground, it will all pay off in the long run. And oh….7 pounds! That’s awesome! WTG!

Hope, you look wonderful! I’m inspired by your success. Like you, my DH has realized drastic changes in his body. He is about the same height and weight as you. It’s incredible to experience the euphoria that the two of you are going through. I applaud you both. Bill has shaved 20 years off his life and has more energy than he’s had in a long time.

Mike, don’t ever give up. The best way to correct a problem is to first recognize and admit to it. My secret to cheating is that I only cheat on things that I like. And now that I’m on Atkins, I only cheat with my favorite Atkins recipes. The Cheesecake (Linda’s, I believe) seems to do the trick for me. One L-Glutamine in the morning, and 1 slice of cheesecake every night! Yummy! So, no matter how bad my day is going, I just keep telling myself that I get to end the day with something blissfully sinful! I admire your courage and determination and know that this board would be at a loss without you. Oh, also, you wonder how much better you will feel? Well, let me tell you one of my experiences with this diet so far. Pre-Atkins, I had a horrible bout with diarrhea (gross – I know). It was all the time. This diet has straightened out my lactose intolerant problems and has shown me that not all dairy is my enemy. It doesn’t stop there. Although I fractured my pelvis, and now seem to have a problem with my sciatica (nerve in left leg), I still won’t give up because I know that with more weight loss, these problems can only dissipate. So don’t beat yourself up. Any progress made is a plus!

Vek, not sure what to say to you at this point in time, it appears as though you are nearly perfect! What a beautiful face! 39 pounds is a BIG HUGE DEAL! You look as if you’ve already made your goal! 10 more is such a little amount compared to how far you’ve come, I know you can do it!

Well, I'm signing off for the night. Have 1 chapter and 1 assignment left of my Finance course and I will be done with my Associates Degree!

Mike...your posts automatically go to the end of the posts as far as I know. I know you can do this. And you will get stronger at making healthier choices and not turn to food when you are stressed as you learn that the food doesn't make the stress go away and that it just undermines yourself. You did great last week and you will do great this week! I have faith in you!!

Sugar...walking is a great starter exercise. They have cd's at Walmart that you can buy that teach you how to up the benefits of exercising by walking fast for so long and then slower...that sort of thing. Swimming is another. Biking has been a hit on here. Really it is up to you to find something you like and that you think you will stick with. Got a dog? It would love to go for walks. No? Voluteer at the SPCA. Or for an elderly neighbor. Buy a exercise video if you prefer to exercise indoors. How about Yoga? Or if your muscles are really tight even a stretching for seniors kind of thing. Any movement is going to be beneficial!! Let us know what you decide.

Caramella...hope you are feeling better soon!

Hi Vek!!! Hope work is going well! How is the plan going?

Bill...my Mom picked up the book and was asking questions and had me forward Linda's site to her. It is hard because I know..and she knows...she would not be able to stick to Atkins for any length of time. And I really don't know how successful she would be as the weight she has put on in the last 2 years are due to some heavy duty meds that she is on. I am encouraging her to eat as close to it as often as she can though. And stressing that she get those veggies in and stay away from refined carbs.

Jackie...Are you feeling better today? I have a baseball in the drawer beside my bed to put under my hip when it starts to hurt during the night. Also have a TENS machine that helps somewhat. I have a lab cross that is almost 2 (about 70 pounds) and a Papallion/Chiaquaqua(sp?) cross that will be 1 in Oct (about 7 pounds). LOL...on the poor abused animals that live at your house. If I were you I would be learning the lowcarb dishes rrrreeeeeallllllyyy ssssssllllllloooooowwwwwlllllyyy LOL! Nice not to have to cook. But is great to have some fast stand by dishes as well. I really like dump chicken ones.

HoldingOn...you are right...you can't make DH do what he doesn't want to do BUT if you are the main cook he will eat what you put in front of him and if you don't keep junk in the house he will be eating healthier by default for the majority of the time. I have read lots of posts here from people who had type 2 who were able to decrease and lots that were able to go off their meds completely. Truly an amazing thing!! Great news that this WOE has helped with your Lupus as well. Being as this is my second time on Atkins I was prepared to have no one notice until I reach about 40 pounds of loss. It is fine it doesn't make me discouraged. But I am thankful for this list as I do not have anyone offline to share my little successes at losing 1 or 2 pounds here or there. My Mom has not ever dieted in her life and never had a weight problem until her health started to deteriate in the past few years. So she really doesn't understand the emotional end of this for me. Next time she comes to town and she sees me she may be able to tell. If not then the time after that.

So my...hmmm..second cousin...was here..he is 12. He has Type 1 Diabetes. His grandparents...my Aunt and Uncle..are his main care givers and are quite protective of his diet. He has to eat at certain times and not 1 minute later. They pack a cooler with them at all times and have his meals all planned out. And it all has to follow certain guidelines..only so much fat or carb at each meal. Okay..I get that part...you know to keep his blood levels stable and all. But I was shocked at what the guidelines were and how high the carbs were and what they were feeding him!! They had no idea I am doing Atkins. And she made one comment during dinner about those Atkins people and all the protein and fat they eat to which I did not reply to. But they have this kid eating 350 carbs per day and 15 grams of carbs. The boy wanted some salad dressing to dip his cucumbers in and she said no that he had had enough already. I had to bite my tongue since his lunch included a big white bun...Big round...maybe bigger than a kaizer roll with some lowfat peanut butter and some jelly. His first pb and j since they just found low fat pb. And a small bag of cherries. And something else I didn't see. His snack was something and a small bag of Doritos. Not my fight and I won't get into with my Aunt but when she was telling us the amounts I did say that a carb was not a carb meaning 100 carbs of cookies versus 100 carbs of say cucumber and tomatos were not the same. But I was so nervous even saying that that when she said the veggies didn't have carbs I said you know what I mean cookies versus a whole grain product. It wasn't until later that I realized that I could have told her that the veggies did contain carbs. But even if I had thought of it in time I don't know if I would have gone there with her. When I was about 11 she told me that there was no such thing as heaven which is something you really shouldn't say to a little girl whose Dad died when she was 9. I had nightmares of my Dad floating around in his coffin in darkness until I was like 16-17. Maybe next year when they visit and see all the weight I lost. LOL!

On a funny note we decided to cut my hair so the back can go spiky. So I got the clippers and we put on the inch attachment but she said it was not cutting and so we put on the 3/4 inch and it cut...really good..and shorter than 3/4 of an inch too...LOL! It is a little short to really spike but should be really good in a few weeks...LOL. So we left the bangs and around my face long...sort of a Victoria Beckman look but before the good cut...LOL...as it is not quite long enough and then me and my Mom and my DD and niece got some red hair dye and all did different things to our hair. I just dyed the front long part red. FUNKY!! I am nervous to even go out of the house now...LMAO!!!! But am interested to see what the reaction is from people who know me...LOL!!

              Hi all!

Good evening tonight--weather wise--perfect for getting in my excercise
and the DW is walking her dog twice as long as usual.

The first crop of Giant Turnips have appeared at the farmers market--we swooped on them before anyone else could! trying many different recipe's with them.

Holdin-- I know what you mean about trying to ask your loved one's to join you! Mine ran away when I told them I am starting this WOL and would like them to join me--
Elsie was right--once all the food was gone and only my food was in the house--and the results I was starting to have--began to show--it was much easier for them to make the commitment to this WOL

Elsie--sounds like you had a great time!! you needed a "you" day!
Polka Dot! now there's a hair color you don't see every day! think about it!???

I too have heard many people diss Atkin's--and I always let it pass--"if"
someone asks (expecially someone who has not seen me in a while) what Diet I'm on..I just say I joined a Gym..

Except once--was buying my suppliments and the counter girl ( who liked her customer's to believe she had a PHD in nutrition <---Airhead!) asked me why I'm buying them--said "Atkin's" before I had a chance to think it out--
Geez--the things she wrongly said and assumed! she didn't even realize she was talking about ketoacidosis--polar opposite of lipolysis..

worse part was--this was the same girl who was serving me a Shake with my Fries just last year........

Bill...remember when you made that quiche and put it on the counter to cool and Cori and her friends ate the WHOLE thing?? LOLOL..I bet that helped to convince them too! I have been known in the past to say I am staying away from sugar and refined carbs. Some days I am ready to help debunk the bad rap Atkins has and other times I know that the person is not open minded enough to really listen so why bother. I mean it is crazy what they believe. I have never eaten so many veggies in my life as when I am on plan and doing well. Crazy people!!

Holding on....trust me...I am not offended! It would take more than that. As far as letting them know next year I will be more prepared to talk about it to them. Thanks!

Dang about DH going out if the food wasn't to his liking. Mind you...the food on Atkins can taste pretty good so maybe he will enjoy eating some of it. I like easy cooking myself. Marinate my meat and slap it in the fry pan...or with the dump chicken even easier...dump into a casserole dish and into the oven. The veggies are probably a bigger pain as they require more prep. But the food is good!

My Mom was saying she was thinking of asking her Dr what he thought of Atkins. I told her some really like it and those that believe the hype don't and for her to bring in a sample menu of a couple of days and ask him what he thought of that and then ask him about Atkins...LOL!

LOL...Yes...guess they will be noticing the hair....LOLOL! I am still giggling about the Mohawk. The way I figure is that it is just hair...it will grow back and I can always run to the store and dye it a different color if it didn't look good...

Vek...I think you might have that somewhat backward..I was the foundation and each buddy a brick and the interaction is the glue that holds us together. If one of those things crumble or go away the whole thing is in danger of collapsing. Hmmmm...our flag has all the colors of the rainbow all mixed up and running together.. and it has a big A in the middle with a big circle around the A. Sewed it myself this morning...LOL!

Wow.. it sure feels like forever between posts. I much prefer being here daily, so I can stay on top of everything and feel like I'm a part of this family. (I don't like feeling like the outsider )

Again I see we have new buddies.. welcome to each and everyone of you! This is a great place to come and share, lend a shoulder, a few encouraging words, or to receive them if in need. Everyone here is fantastic!

I have had an ok week.. I fell away from writing everything down (which I still think and fully believe helps!) I have been slipping back to the not eating this past week, but most of that was due to lack of money and trying to make sure the kids and dh had food to eat.. anyways today was dh's payday LOL.. so happy food shopping I shall go! Even though this week hasn't felt great, I was keeping in mind what I was making when it came to dinner and I must have been doing something right...

I'm down 6lbs this week and 5.25 inches! In five weeks I have lost 7.5 inches in my waist alone! That's alot if one thinks about it. In total after 5 weeks I have lost.. 23lbs & 25.85 inches

There are so many of your posts that I want to reply to and I will, sadly though after spending over two hours trying to fix my signature and now writing here it's almost 3am my time. It's all I can do to keep my eyes open to finish this. My dh wants to go for coffee early so I can have time to come home and do my youngest son's laundry before he leaves at 2pm for the island.

I hope you're all having a great week & I will return soon I hope.

PS. Elsie.. you haven't lost me nor will you.. some how time will get right again where I can come here more often. My dh's son is leaving around the 30th I think, and I've been job searching too so hoping to get that resolved as well. Then I'll find my groove. Patience is a virtue..

                                Night All..
