Sniff...sniff....I'll light a candle for Bozo. Okay, I'm okay now.

Things are going well. I veered off into this strange "clean eating" thingy that started off well enough, but there were just too many carbs for me I guess. I lost some weight initially, but bit by bit it came back, one pound at a time. It was a good experiment for me really. I did what would be considered "all the right things" and still it didn't quite work. The morning after I went back to low carb I was down 3 pounds. Go figure!

I've made some short and long term fitness goals and have a pretty good plan carved out for how to get there. One of those plans is getting up a 5:30 in the am to get to the gym for 6:00 and swim 50 laps - Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. In my pool that works out to be 1km (or .6 of a mile). That takes me about 1/2 an hour. I'm biking and slowing trying to get to that illusive 5k run. I've realized that I have a long way to go to get my body in any kind of shape to really "train", but little by little I should see results. September 16th I start a four week intensive weight training course. It's three days a week - Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and I'm excited and scared all at the same time.

The move into the new house was grueling and if I never move again it will be too soon! Getting use to being in a new neighborhood has been very difficult, as the local culture is very different. People walk and bike all over the street and don't move for cars. Most of the cars don't stop for the stop signs either. You would think we were out at some camp rather than in the city, but nope, we're in the city. It's very strange.

Enough about me though, how is everyone else doing?

          Tommorrow
Sounds like you learned a bit about "you". So glad that when you did decide to go back to this WOL-- you were not disappointed! You put in too much work to go YO-YO around to different diets.
Your Fitness goals are huge!! Geez--I started with 10 push-ups and 10 sit-ups!! your statement about taking time to see results is KEY!!
no rush! you have the rest of your life..take your time--get your body to a point where it is now used to activity--then progress..

hope you get used to the new location soon--not like the old day's--you throw a block party--everyone show's up (with house warming gift's or food) to welcome you and yours to the neighborhood...today--best you will get is now---is when your neighbor let's his dog "go" on your lawn or in your driveway...

Thanks--yea..I lost an inch or two--maybe a pound or so....still pluggin'!
My family and I are really enjoying this WOL..it's a real adventure for us..
from finding new foods and recipe's..to excercise..to the friends we made on this board..to how great we all feel..it was the right program at the right time in our lives!!

Hope you post more and more--soon it will be like you never left!

Holdingontohope -- *sends you hugs* I know that I will never truly understand how you feel but working in a pharmacy now for almost 8 years has let me see what people with lupus/cancer/hiv have to go through during one day. All the medications that you have to take can have side effects (like prednisone causing weight gain ) and if you were to stop taking them...you would end up in severe pain or worse. So I understand..and hey, speaking of Pharmacy I work at Walmart *ducks and hides* I could get you some prices I love my job..not the company.

Anyhow everyone..just wanted to do my post. I haven't weighed myself seriously this week because its TOM and they say not to weigh yourself. So I will wait till next week!

            Goodnight!

hey everyone!! sorry for the late post. hope everyone is doing well. it's getting late and i really need to go to bed, but just wanted to check in. yesterday was not a good day for me and really neither was today, nothing to do with the diet though. DH and i decided to stop smoking yesterday. i smoked my last one yesterday morning, but by mid afternoon, my mood got pretty bad. i have pretty much felt angry at the world for about the last 24 hrs. i know it's probably part of the withdrawal, but i have even lashed out at DH. he seems to not be having a problem with withdrawls, but then again, he always has done better than me whenever we have attempted to quit in the past. hopefully my mood with get better soon, as i feel totally awful right now.

well, i really need to get in the bed, will check in again tomorrow.

Bill...I know I have never felt pressured...just gently supported...if you call you threatening me with whips and tomatoes supporting...LOL! Seriously though I know that sooner or later that some form of exercise will become part of my life. The more weight I lose the more inspired I am to think about it..LOL! And of course we have several long time buddies, not mentioning any names, who have shown how much more success one has with exercise!

Tomorrow..Welcome back! I did it! I confess..that stupid clown just sat there staring at me with that stupid grin like he had some real good dirt on me...I couldn't let him live! I'd do it again too! LOL! We are glad that you are back among us..settling in and wiser about Atkins working for you. Sounds like you have a great plan set to help you be successful. Very sad. We are very close and I talk to her everyday. And the point of me sharing all that....LOL.....she LOVES Walmart!!

Monie...WOW!! Stopping smoking too! You truly are on a path to wellness!!! You can do this. Are you using the patch or just cold turkey? You are so worth this!!!

Holding...I really believe that with your positive attitude that that is one of the main reasons you are doing so well despite all your hardships...you rock girl!!!!

Robin...prednisone is one of the meds that has caused my Mom's weight gain. She is dealing with Scleraderma, Raynauds, Fibramyalsia, Emphesema, arthiristis, osteo, etc. Most of it stemming from the Scleraderma that she was diagnosed 8 years ago. She is currently beating the odds but her health has greatly declined this past year. The scary part is that she is a mere 18 years older than me.

Yo Yo Yo I's been vis-it-ed by the Whoos-ee Fair-ee!!!...Down 4 pounds this week...so who says you can't lose weight on OWL!!! Loving my ricotta cheese and cream, my spoonfuls of peanut butter, my fruit. Oh ya baby!!!!

What does patience get you? I had about a month there where I didn't lose anything but stayed legal...since then lost 2 pounds then 1 pound and now 4 pounds. 4 pounds is more than I lost my second week of induction. 7 pounds the last 3 weeks. Life is good!!

hey everyone....just got done eating my dinner a little bit ago. i'm made the Philly Cheeseburger Skillet Dinner from linda's site. it sounded good, and i actually had all the ingredients it called for, and it really was pretty good. i also made some oopsie rolls tonight, thinkin' maybe some tuna salad, or some PB&J are in my future.

tomorrow-welcome back girl!!! hope you are finally getting settled in. it's good to see you came back to low carb after your little experiment. sounds like you have the diet and exercise all planned out.
holding-no feeling sorry for you here either. just lots of well wishes and to tell you i admire you for you fighting so hard to become healthy through all your struggles. just keep at it, and you look and feel more awesome everyday.
robin-i hope you are finally getting over the soreness from all the help you were giving to the other pharmacy the other night.
elsie-4 lbs!!!!!! you go girl!!!! that's awesome. with all the things going on with me, i forgot to weigh myself yesterday morning. you asked if i was using the patch or cold turkey.....it's more like a freezing turkey LOL, but it's getting a little easier. the angry feelings are subsiding now, but still miss the habit part probably more than the nicotine. just sitting here on the computer is driving me nuts.
mike- hope everything is going ok for you.
caramella-hope you had a good day today.
bill-the exercise is one of the main reasons i wanted to quit. DH is wanting to do all these long bike rides in the future, and i know that i'll need all the lung capacity i can get to be able to keep up. we still haven't been out on our new bikes yet, but hopefully if not before, we will be able to go a few times over the next weekend.

the last 2+ days have been so hard on me, but i'm trying to keep myself busy and not think about the smoking. i just hope i can make it, i've quit several times before, but only lasted a few months.
well, i gotta go. have a good night everyone.

Monie..I really commend you on adding quitting smoking to your new healthier life. I certainly understand the draw of it...even though I have never smoked...I am not counting 3 months when I was 14....there have been times when I am so stressed that I wish I had a smoke!!! I deep breathe instead...maybe not as gratifiying but way healthier in the long run! Keep up the great work.

Holdingontohope -- Walmart is the biggest corporate monster of all...I make good money doing what I do only because well, I deal with medications and insurances and doctors offices all day. However, I hear you about underpaying people..it sucks. I like the pharmacy the best (as I have been a cashier, photolab technician and even an automotive associate) but it has its issues, too. Apparently we are the end of the line for issues with people--the usual complaint is "Why is my prescription so much?" I love being there for people who are understanding and appreciative. I just try to keep my stress level down with the others :P

Yeah Walgreens has it's own program...but as you see with Target and Randall's they also have taken on the 4 dollar craze. Walgreens has a card you pay for each year and they give you a discount..HEB does the same thing sort of--it's a membership fee but you get your generics for 5 bucks and CVS??? Don't bother If you ever need any help with any sort of "pharmacy" question..I can sort of help.

Okay, enough job related stuff. Heheh! I am going to go to bed...I'm exhausted and worn out.

Holding...I am wondering if you have an older version of Atkins books since the rungs don't ring a bell. That is what happened to me..I bought and read the wrong book but fortuneatly I found this board and was reading and posting questions and absorbing the stuff here before I started and ended up doing the right version. The older version you just have to keep it pretty much under 20 carbs if I remember right. The 2002 version...which we follow here Dr Atkins has tweaked his WOE (Way Of Eating) to help us become more successful. That is why we are limited to certain foods or amounts of food. You can find some info in the stickies here Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) - Atkins Diet

So the first step is just to add 5 more carbs of veggies than you are eating now. There is a greater variety of veggies and you can stay there as long or as short as you want or until you are done experimenting there. Read the stickies and if you have questions just ask and we will help you. Also if you aren't sure what the abbreviations are just ask...after all that is what buddies are for!!!
