oh robin.. sorry to hear about the crying on saturday.. hormones maybe ? TOM? or just frustration.. i hate when that happens... *cyber hugs*

Monie... way to go on the quitting smoking.. i cant imagine how hard that and trying to eat right can be..oh and let us know if Target has the muffin top pans.. i have been thinking that i need to get themfor the oopsie rolls too. i did the pizza oopsie roll thing..ITS WONDERFUL .. you cant pick it up / youneed to eat with fork but it tasted fantastic.. i did a very small amount of just plain tomato sauce, then added the ground beef, pepporoni, saute'd zucinni and of course CHEESE ! it was wonderful... even DH really liked it...

holding... jerks will be jerks.. i think you handled it AMAZINGLY.. good idea on the quick stop at walgreens.. in a pinch ! is there any way to never see this person again ? or is it a family member? that is the worst ! however, you did great !! and i agree with the post that your new rule should be.. " i drive, i pick the place we go!"

As for me i hit 279 this morning.. exactly one week since my sugar binge - its funny however that it would take me a whole week to recover from said binge.. i like that tho. knowing that "if i cheat, i lose 1 week" may just stop me from ever getting that way again.. also i agree with elsie that it was probably self sabotage regarding my first mini goal i set for myself (275) - and i have heard how losing weight can bring up all sorts of emotions, and bring up all the reasons you eat.. etc etc.. so its good to analize these road bumps... but i am back on track and determined to be the size i am supposed to be....eventually

have a great day off you guys... i am going shopping for my future daughter in laws bridal shower .. woo hooo !

On further talk on the soy sauce it just may be a your personal choice issue. There is a brand or two out there...Braggs and Tamari that do not use wheat. Some say that because it still uses soy beans that it is not allowed until the legume rung and others say it falls under the condiments so is allowed..but still the ones without the wheat.

Robin...what are you frustrated about? The lack of food choices or that you can't enjoy the things you used to? Let's see if we can come up with some ideas for you.

Monie...that was the thing...it started off with me just wanting to change the weight numbers in my sig line. I wasn't adding anything. I took the rest out..stuff that had been there for months... to try to make it work. Today when I went to update my weight lose it let me and let me add back in the link to the recipe thread. It must have just been grouchy that day...LOL! How are the new bikes? Way to go on the gym...do you like it there?

Sugar...<< i like that tho. knowing that "if i cheat, i lose 1 week" may just stop me from ever getting that way again>> Great attitude!!!

Holding. Thanks! Lost another 2 on Monday so am even closer now at 215. I can tell you from previous experience that it is very exciting to ender ONEderland. Am hoping to get there well before Christmas. But we will see.

If the ingredients are allowed for the stage you are at on Atkins then dip is allowed. You can also make your own. Cream cheese is allowed...spices if you are counting the carbs..sour cream is limited but allowed if you are still in induction...Spinach is for sure and so is artichoke.

Got two positive comments on my hair from strangers today in town. DD has made me put my jeans in the too big pile. I have another pair that I bought a couple of weeks ago that I had to lie down to do up and can now pull on without undoing the button. Must hem them before it is too late.

          Evening all...

Well after this past weekend ...I feel a lot better about the diet. Saturday I had actually gone to "The Mall" (barton creek square for Holdingon ) with the family to check out some stuff. DH and I decided that it was time to try on some pants since the jeans that I currently am wearing around the house are falling off me. We went to J Crew and I was shocked! I fit into a size 12...woooo! That was an uplifting experience...but I didn't buy them because the price tag was a bit too much. Just knowing that I can fit into clothes that I previously had to jump up and down and hold my breath to get on was great.

We managed to go out to my pharmacists house on Sunday night because he was doing barbeque that I could eat. So I had some meat, meat and more meat. I wasn't able to eat the cole slaw but I was satisfied.

Monday was the holiday...we were lazy pretty much all morning and then after we fed the kids lunch we headed out. DH and I hadn't eaten at all that morning so we stopped at TGI Fridays...I found a dish that I could actually eat (it had chicken, shrimp and lots of yummy cheese...)--I replaced the mashed potatoes with broccoli. Quite yummy! Then we went to the outlet mall and did a lot of walking...I happened to say to DH that I needed new work pants since I'm walking around at work feeling like a clown--my pants pretty much billow out around my legs. We happened to go into The Gap store and tah dah! I found two pairs of cords that I fit...yay!! I felt so happy about that....

Today was a busy day..our pharmacy was closed due to the holiday so we were running around like mad. Makes for a good workout And some other good news today...stepped on the scale and it read 168! Woo! I'm even happier...it's wonderful to see that number and funny only because DH and I have always been like 35 to 40 pounds different in weight...and now? About 5 pounds! *dances*

          Alright, enough about me...
          --Robin

PS: Elsie...I think my frustration comes from yes, the idea that I can't eat what everyone else is eating. However, I have been browsing Linda's low-carb site and the "never ending recipes" on here..I just have to purchase a lot of stuff..I dont have a food processor/blender and I haven't even seen cream of tartar before...so I will in the future be buying more stuff and trying things out...for right now I have to stick to what we can afford.

            Hi All,

Too many posts to respond too. In general it appears as everyone is doing well this week. And to those of you who had a lousy weekend, I see that you are able to bounce back!

I weathered the long weekend and managed to stay on the diet. I didn't however do any exercising (except to walk my dog "Rusty" 3 times a day). I started a 30 day "Ultimate Intestinal Cleanse". I actually can feel that its working. I don't think I will see any major results right away. I think its going to be more of a progression thing.

A lot of my sciatic nerve pain has dissapated. But, I need to take baby steps to prevent doing anymore damage. I'll get there!

My next official weigh in day is Sunday. So, at that time I hope to post some good results for y'all to congrat me on.

And btw....You guys are phenomenal with all your support and advice! Even though I didn't respond to every single post, I think I took away more than I've given. I must be greedy.....lol

P.S. Monie, congrats on being off the smokes for a week. It's difficult, but if you've gone a week, that proves you are strong willed and can truly stay off of them.

holding-i guess i should clarify what i meant by dip....normally i just use what ever type of salad dressing i am eating at the time to dip my veggies in. that's really what i was referring to as dip, you probably could make your own just like elsie said.

elsie-wtg on another 2lb loss. i've been starting my own too big pile myself. i was reading somewhere(it may have even been in the DANDR), that when losing weight, you should always get rid of those big clothes. something about holding onto them allows us to get a little too comfortable and slack in sticking to the plan if we have bigger clothes to fall back into. makes good sense really. so i'm waiting for a call from amvets, they usually call once a month to see if i have anything for them to pick up.

robin- wtg on those size 12's and on the 168lbs. your doing great, glad that you had some positive things happen to lift your spirits a bit. about the cream of tartar, until recently i never really knew exactly what it was. then one day i was looking in the spice section and saw it. it's a dry spice, but in my mind, i always thought it was some type of cream.

jackie-glad you made it through the weekend unscathed. if your little pooch is anything like mine was, taking him for a walk was plenty of exercise especially 3 x's a day. luckily we have a pretty large fenced in yard, so taking ours for a walk was never a necessity, but we still did every once in a while just for fun. we are still thinkin' about getting another basset, but may wait til the spring. that way it will be getting warmer outside instead of colder while we are going through the whole housebreaking and training stuff.

sugar- i had found the muffin top pans online at Target, but when i went to the store, they didn't have them on the shelf. i may end up having to order them online. there's one more store i need to check before i do get them online though. i made the oopsie roll pizza the other night, and i loved it, but DH was not too thrilled about it though.

we had a really good weekend, DH and i went on our first bike ride with our new bikes, and man could i tell a difference, the new bike was awesome. i fixed what i thought was a great dinner afterwards, but ended up DH wasn't really crazy about this one either. i had fixed steak, garlic pasta noodles (used grated squash as the pasta), and coconut shrimp(which i found the recipe off another low carb site). i felt like i had fixed a dinner similar to what you'd get at a nice seafood restaurant, but i could just tell by DH face the only thing he was even considering eating was the steak. he ended up giving me everything else he'd put on his plate. oh well, i guess i'll just have to keep trying new recipes, eventually i'll make something he'll like. we can't just have meatloaf and tacos everynight...lol
yesterday we both went to the Y for a workout, spent about 30 mins on a bike and then 10 or 15 on the treadmill. anyways, that's about all that's been going on with me.....

              take care everyone,
              monie

Robin..a size 12? How exciting!!! I can't wait. Glad you are feeling better now. Remember that no matter what 'diet' you would be following there would be restrictions...some a lot greater than Atkins. And you are CHOOSING not to eat the crap. You are doing great! Stick with it and you will soon be at goal and be able to indulge OCCASIONALLY!

Jackie...glad you are starting to feel better. Are you still doing Atkins or something different while you are doing your cleanse?? How is Cori and Bill?

Monie..Keep plugging away with the meals..hopefully he is at least trying them before turning up his nose...LOL! Great news about the bikes. I have heard the giving away the clothes thing too. Also Dr. Phil calls pants with elastic waists cheater pants because the weight can sneak on without you having to face it so easily. So totally true!

I think I can't have coconut milk (dairy rung) I have had it two days in a row and both days been very hungry grazing kind of feeling. Definately getting my calories in these past two days.

                Anyway...talk to ya tomorrow...

                • Ok.. Confession Time!!!

I started Atkins July 17th 2008 with so much enthusiasm, and now I find myself full of doubt.

I know Atkins works, so why is it so hard to stick to everyday? Don't get me wrong, I've been pretty good at eating only allowable things.

Including this AM (Sept. 4th) I have had three slip ups. 1st slip was about mid August when I had "Monthly" huge craving for chocolate ~sighs~ so I found a recipe from Linda's Low Carb Menu to make.. ummm problem was I didn't realize until after the goodies were gone, that it wasn't Induction friendly! But OMG.. were they ever good! 2nd slip was on Sept. 1st as it was my youngest son's birthday. I figured since I had been good and past on step-sons birthday cake a week before, that I would share in a small slice, which then led to two.. well 11/2 due to the fact that I almost threw up! It was sweet it made me ill. Serves me right. I must be missing something or needing to find myself something I can have that's desert sweet? 3rd slip up - It's now 2am my time and I am awaiting for some treats to be ready in the freezer even as I write this. How sad is that? It's the same ones I made in mid Aug. but this time I only made 4 and not 12 or 24.

I feel very angry at myself, because I know I want this work for me and yet here I am setting myself up for failure. WHY?

Does anyone know of any nummy treats allowed in Induction? Also part of my troubles are that I live in Canada.. where it seems low carb isn't so popular anymore. Which means it's very hard to find low carb baking stuff.

I hope to turn this around soon, and get back to how I felt about all this weeks ago. It was a great feeling!

Sassy - I know that Sugar free Jello has saved me in the past.

Was it ever really decided weather you could have sugar free jello or not? I found that after I was done with induction I could have one small bowl of sugar free jello and I was so happy. I never seen any weight increase because of it either. It just made my sweet tooth happy - and it was only 1 carb.

You guys can yell at me if you want to. But it is better then eating something that is totally bad for you.

I'm sorry for budging in this way. But I could use some buddies on this journey and you guys seem like a pretty lively bunch. I am on day three of induction and doing well. I fear that I ate a salad yesterday that was probable not the best...but other then that things are going great. My energy is back, my tummy doesn't hurt. I am feeling on top of the world.

(((Sassy))) Hey Buddy....good to see you here again. I missed your interaction. Welcome back home. If I could answer why we set ourselves up for failure or lose our motivation I would be a very wise woman indeed...but I am not. Maybe finding an allowable dessert that you can eat every day will help you...knowing that your treat is coming up and legal may make you stronger. There is a treat called 'Clouds' that is induction friendly. It is one of those that need some portion control from what I have heard. Also as Shauna suggested you can use jello and whip up your cream for it. Try to find the Splenda jello though.

Okay Sassy...here it comes...why don't you consider moving up the rungs? Add some variety to your foods. Opens up what you can have as treats...well...not the first week but after that with the dairy rung and so on. Don't be scared!!! I have shown that you can lose weight there as well. Hey...did you know I am in Canada too? Some of the baking stuff you can make yourself...grind your own almonds for almond flour kind of thing. But check out some health food stores. You can also order stuff from a low carb store and have it delivered. I haven't done that but let me know if you are interested and I will find the link for you. They are in Canada. I found ground flax at the Wholesale store in the cereal aisle. Mind you most of the baking stuff isn't allowed until you get to that rung so that is another great reason to move on up. One day at a time hon!!! You can do it!

Shauna..Welcome!!! Jump right in! The jello thing is acceptable if you use the one with splenda not aspartame. Or make your own using gelatin. And of course you have to count it towards your artificial sweetner allowance.

I personally like to recommend that people cut out all artificial sweetners during induction if possible and then add them back in after. Just to see how your body reacts to them. And to give you the best chance at losing the most you can during induction. Sometimes people just can't seem to do that so then I just caution them to watch and be aware if it affects your body. For some it causes stalls (or during induction I would guess less weight loss) and for others it causes cravings. For the next person (Yah..I am in this group) they can have it with no side effects. So it is definately something to be aware of. Just my 2 cents...LOL!!!

Anyway...day 3..good for you. No flu?? Looking forward to getting to know you!

No, I am staying away from all artificial sweetners for now. It is not that they stall me, but they make me sick. Jello doesn't seem to do that to me as I only have a half of a cup. BUT... I am not going to eat any of it during induction. No, subsitutes this time at all.

Thanks for the warm welcome by the way. And no, I have not had the flu this time around. I am feeling great! Almost like it is the first time doing this diet. I think that is a good sign.

Hope – The 30 day "Ultimate Intestinal Cleanse" is a product that cleans out your system. It washes all the fecal matter off your intestinal/colon walls. Everyone builds up this matter over the course of years. So, it’s good to use this product to wash it out. But, ridding your system of this matter, you will also be getting rid of harmful bacteria which will improve your over health. An extra benefit is that weight loss can occur. For some people it can be about 10 to 20 pounds. When John Wayne died, they found 70 pounds of fecal matter in his system. If I had that much, then I would only have 21 more pounds to go to meet my goal. But, I’m sure I’m like most people with 10 to 20 pounds of it. You can read more about this product at www.NaturesSecret.com.

Monie – Good for you on the bike riding! And I too have started a “Too Big/I’ll never wear again anyway” pile. For me, it helps to have a visual of my progress.

Elsie-wtg on another 2lb loss. I’m still doing Atkins with the cleanse.

Robin- wtg on those size 12's and on the 168lbs.

Sugar - we have a “Home Goods” store here. They carry the muffin top pan in their store. So, if you have one where you are, you might want to check it out.

Sassy1- Not sure if this is induction phase friendly. I’m at the office today and don’t have the book at hand, so check before indulging on this one? Try the cheesecake from Linda’s list. It’s delicious and can be whipped up in 20 minutes. Use 16oz of cream cheese, 1 package of sugar-free jello, 1 packet of splenda, 1 cup of cream, and a cap full of vanilla extract. You blend the jello mixed with ½ cup water (once its cooled down – not jelled yet) with the cream cheese in one bowl. Blend the cream, splenda, and vanilla extract in another bowl until you get soft peaks. Then fold the cream cheese/jello mixture into the whip cream mixture until it’s all smooth and takes on the color of the jello throughout. Chill in the fridge. You can eat this right away, or you can wait until its firm. This makes 8 servings. Hint: I break my cheesecake up into 8 seperate servings so that I don't mistakenly eat more than 1 serving. I use the glad throw away mini cups. This way, I just grab one. I eat it very slowly, and I have one every night so that I have something to look forward to.

Just out of curiousity...is it aspartame that makes you sick or splenda as well?? Have you tried Stevia?
Splenda makes me sick and anything with maltodextrine it does as well. As for the other stuff, I just decided to stay away from it all. I could give this Stevia a try though. Are we allowed to have it after induction?

You must want to fly so much that you're willing to give up being a caterpillar.
