I took that as approval of doing Atkins as long as it's done correctly.
    how great is that!?! proof is in the numbers, not just the scale but the bp numbers what a great incentive to keep on track and show the dr and nurses just how well atkins is, and continues, to work for you!

      ack............ myjack is exactly like your dh used to be. i swear, sometimes he has to quit snacking so he can eat dinner and then when dinner is over, he's right back to snacking. now granted, his snacks these days are much better for him but i swear, the man eats from the minute he gets home to the time he goes to bed! and to be only about 20 pounds overweight... that is amazing. i'm glad your dh has established some good habits.

      Another interesting piece was antioxidants and the Atkins Ratio. I didn’t realize garlic was so very high in antioxidants. I question leaf lettuce being #2 in antioxidants…I would rank that much lower and thought blueberries would be in the top rankings. Anyways, I think the main point here is why it is important to have a wide variety of veggies and other foods such as berries so you get the benefits of all the different nutrients.

      Chapter 9, Facts and Fallacies

      This chapter should be in a PDF file so it can be printed and handed out when people barrage you with these various fallacies. Somehow I don’t think it would do much good as the anti-Atkins people seem to be zealots in defense of low-fat, calorie-counting diets. And I think they get angry when you poke holes in their flawed logic. Too bad…I am going to continue to educate myself and poke away!

        i finished with chapter 8 today. and oh, i finished chapter 7 last night before going to sleep. reading your posts made me think that i ought to be able to read at least a few pages so i did. thanks for spurring me on!

        i have so many things highlighted and circled that it's hard to come up with anything "new" that jumps out at me. what i do want to comment on is how many times things are repeated. for instance, our vegetable intake. for anyone who says 'atkins is no good, you can't even eat vegetables' has most definetly NOT read the book. you can't get through hardly one chapter that dr. atkins isn't mentioning veggies in one way or another.

        i like the fact that exercise and supplements are mentioned in this part too. he is setting the foundation for what is to come. and those are two other things that are mentioned over and over throughout the book.

            i've also completed part 1 today, as scheduled.

            as i read through the fact and fallacies, i can remember so many of those fallacies being mentioned here. i don't know, for me, i never had any questions about 'does it work' or any worries about my numbers. i knew i was going to lose weight [both in 1975 and 2002] and knew that dropping the extra pounds that i would be healthier.

            i would like to ask at this point that anybody who has not checked in, please do so. i'll go back through the thread for the last couple days but so far i only have 6 challengers that have said they finished part one.

            we start part two tomorrow! INDUCTION! and then some!

              steffi, as i was sifting through the thread to make sure i didn't miss any posts, i reread this entry of yours. does this mean you read all of part 1 and read on through to chapter 14? you are way ahead of the game!


              do you know that i never knew that cancer feeds off sugar, until i was stricken with it? what a good reason to stay away from the stuff!

                  Jimmie, I am on chapter 14 I started the book and just kept reading until chapter 14 last week. I was pretty surprised when I read the relationship cancer had with sugar it really shocked me. I had hives on and off since March and when I started Atkins 6 weeks ago I haven't had one since. I think it was the sugar and yeast I was eating pretty crazy. My husband is also doing Atkins with me and had terrible heartburn infact he thought he was having heart problems it was so bad that he went to a cardiologist they did stress test and some other tests and the cardioligist said heart was perfectly fine he just has acid reflex and heartburn. It has completely gone away in 6 weeks and he has lost over 22 pounds, I wish I could lose like him but know men lose more. My only problem right now is giving up coffee I really struggle with that. This has been great I have only read parts of the book this is the first time I have read each chapter. Great challenge, Thanks!!

                      I have finished part 1 Jo. Have not posted due to crazy busy life. Had a wonderful visit with my older brother who was visiting from FL. He has gone home & life is getting back to normal.

                      One of the things I enjoy about section 1 is the encouragement Dr. A gives me. I feel like he is talking to me personally & I feel like yes I can in fact do this.

                      Starting section 2 today. It looks & feels like we may get some snow~yikes!

                          I finished part 1 last night after a good workout on my new treadmill! I was way too exhausted from both to post but I did it! Last night my hubby's friend was over and was disputing our WOL. Good time to read about fallicies and how to deal with them!

                                I finished part one last night - the success stories of course are encouraging - but we read lots of those here every day.
                                I need to add more veggies to breakfast, like I did in the beginning - or have pumpkin sometimes instead of eggs for breakfast.
