  • Re: Keeping our Cool: December Diet Challenge

So far so good. I am having one of those "I don't feel like exercising" weeks...but I am managing to keep it up. Eating is on track. The losses have really slowed the last two months or so...this may just be where I am at, or it may be diet related...I will wait until January to figure this out. For now, I am just going to concentrate on my December goals - staying on plan & exercising

I have been doing all right this week. I lost 2 and a half pounds but today it's back, go figure! I've been getting my exercise in with no trouble but I haven't gotten to the exercise video because the livingroom is full of boxes of Christmas ornaments so I don't have room to move around much.

I've been drinking less tea and getting more water but I have to watch it because of a bladder problem. I'm taking my vitamins 3 days a week which is better than I was doing before this challenge.

The stress is still a problem but I've started keeping it quieter in here than before. I think the noise is part of my problem. My dh usually has the finanicial news on all day while I listen to satelite radio in another room and with the pool pump running plus various machines and the phone ringing off the hook, my nerves get frazzled. But I'm working on that.

I like reading about everyone else's challenges and I'm inspired by the people who are managing to get through the parties. Keep up the good work!

Keeping our Cool: December Diet Challenge

I am feeling 95% back to normal after that flu...

So happy to be doing more exercise again.
My supplements, water, and food are all good again. I am a little stressed out though catching up on 3 weeks of cleaning, laundry, paperwork, grocery shopping, other commitments...life has not been normal since the death in the family (11-24) and then sliding right into the flu.

I stayed on track with my Atkins WOE through Thanksgiving, all the wake/funeral days and time with Mom until the flu hit on 11-30. I went up 4 pounds as of Tuesday, and went back on Induction Wednesday when I finally felt better. I will weigh again on Monday.

Julie that is how I feel about December. It is a month to be realistic about. I hope to do decent. And I am doing better now that I am back to exercising fully again. I am hoping that that scale will be good for you though.

Hey Nyna - up and downs on the scale - yeah - I hate the scale I hope you can find some quiet in there. I am so sure we are affected by stress a lot. Is the blueberry season over now?

Akader - look at you go. Coffee makes me hypoglycemic so I am very envious because I love the stuff but has to restrict it.

Mission - you have done a really good job clawing yourself back

So far today I have been good food wise - had steak and mushrooms for breakfast and a shake for lunch - planning sausage and veggies for supper. And I did exercise and I discovered why I feel like my pants are too small. Yes it is HERE again. This perimenopause is driving me nuts - not only those mood swings but also never being able to predict anything.

                Liv,

That meno-p thing is the pits. I am finally finished---- 2 years anniversary was Thanksgiving week. I started symptoms 11 years before it was over!!!!!
So I can imagine how you feel. Just breathe deep and hang in there! I didn't do any HRP, don't want any help in possibly getting a life threatening problem worse than the horrid symptoms if I didn't absolutely have to.

I had a partial hysteroctomy which threw me into perimentopause....THEN 10 years later 1 tube and ovary were removed so that made everything worse.....there are days I could bite the head off a granite statue! I didn't go the HR either, dr said I was too young & "it will pass".....he died not long ago....I think part of it was wishful thinking from the women he said that too....ROFL!!

Ok, for me.....food good, having pumpkin desert in about a half hour. Exercise - took Sadie for a walk today (not the treadmill - real brisk fresh air), got another bottle of Vitamin D - have been taking them for a couple weeks now. I feel good about how I'm doing.

edited to add: I went down and got on the treadmill last night after I posted this -- 2.5 miles at 3.5 - 3.8 mph / 4 to 8% incline. I added the additional .5 mile because I was watching TV and not watching the miles so I figured since I was already past 2 miles to go to 2.5 miles. Glad I did!!!

                      December 11th:
Weight: Avoiding the scale once again.
Diet: I haven't been hungry today and my stomach is sore so I have just been nibbling on things. I don't feel clogged anymore, just blahish.
Water: 64oz +, not really thirsty today either.
Supplements: I got 30g in yesterday before passing out. I just got to tired. Today I haven't counted but due to the fact that I haven't eaten much I doubt I have gotten enough.
Exercise: Does changing the channels on the tv count? Tomorrow I am going shopping so I will get some then.
Planning: Nothing to plan right now. Maybe a better shopping list so I don't run out of food (like I did this week).
Other: Still feeling sick, but not really clogged anymore...well maybe a little. Still really tired.

Hello all. Long day Friday...sendoff ceremony for my dh's deployment. Did get a LOT of walking in, managed to eat ok and get my veggies and water in. Once again drank too much coffee. I don't think the coffee is my issue really, I think it is all the cream and splenda I use.
I am still not weighing in.
I do worry a little how stress effects things for me. I either don't want to eat, or sometimes want to eat for comfort, and not overly motivated to exercise. This is a very tough time of year for me. I do know that eating right and exercise are the things that help me. I just have to keep reminding myself of that.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I finally dusted off my old Richard Simmons tape and exercised to it for 38 out of the 60 minutes. I've forgotten some of the routines so will work on relearning them and working out to the whole tape. He does a lot of arm movements and my shoulders ached so bad I thought my arms would drop off! LOL! I wasn't winded at all because my other exercise routines give me good lung power, it's just the shoulder movements that get to me.

Liv, Yes the blueberries are done producing for the year but now we have to do the pruning which is hard work. It's not like pruning the dead flowers off a rose bush. We have to cut thick branches out at ground level that are 1 1/2" thick, 6' long and very bushy. We prune all through the winter no matter how cold it is out there but we work up a sweat so we don't mind the temperature too much.

Well, my first real challenge is tonight. My husband's Christmas party. I expect to do well, but need to be prepared to be tempted - potatoes on my plate, desert, might want a drink? Also, we are staying at a hotel tonight that includes the most wonderful buffet breakfast...I'm sure there will be temptations there. I am also sure that there will be appropriate choices, so it is up to me I think that the slowing of my losses the last couple months will help keep me on track - I don't want to throw away weeks of progress by giving into temptation. Will report tomorrow on how it went.
I only see my husband's co-workers a couple times year, so I expect lots of compliments and attention tonight. The good thing is that 2 of his co-workers lost a TON of weight the last few years, so I know that they will be supportive of my choices.

Glad I'm in this challenge - it makes me sit down and think about how I am going to cope with the tempations and situations I'm facing this month - writing down how I feel about things makes me think them through more clearly.

Unexpected temptation last night - there was birthday cake at Flyball practice (there is usually just dog treats). It was offered but not pushed, which was nice, and I avoided it pretty easily.

Was stopped & complimented by a lady at work the other day (she works in a different building - we don't see each other very often). She said she saw me in the coffee shop recently and wasn't sure if it was me She was very complimentary about my losses. I feel a little funny about stuff like that, I guess I'm not used to it...I should have a better plan for dealing with it - it makes me a little uncomfortable, and I think I can expect a lot of it over the next few weeks as I see a lot of people this time of year that I don't see often otherwise.

                              Gotta go...see you all tomorrow.
