  • Re: Keeping our Cool: December Diet Challenge

I know - busy is just what this month is about. (well that and the eating)
I was listening to radio this last week and one of my favourite people had a little bit of a talk about what 'advent' means. He said it does not really mean to wait but to prepare one self for the occasion and he said in the olden days they did prepare themselves by fasting and denying themselves good stuff - so that when the day came they would be able to appreciate it more fully. I was thinking wow - how we have gone away from that. December is like one big feast.

Anyways I hope everyone has a good day. I will report in tomorrow.

Keeping our Cool: December Diet Challenge

Supplements: Be more regular about taking my supplements besides the daily vitamin. If I start early in the day, I am ok, I can't take them all at once at the end of the day. But I have greatly improved. Before they were all just sitting on the shelf.

Weight: Try to lose at least .5# each week (Not weighing until Monday)

Water: Continue my 96 ounces per day. (Drinking 96 oz 112 and more-Water is never a problem for me)

Exercise: Get out to the club more often, not just exercising at home. (Going to do the elliptical again at the club after my Friday yoga class, and already did Tai Chi at home this morning)

I made my menu plan & grocery list for next week tonight. I decided to have salads for lunches (lower cal than my usual lunches), since many of my dinners will be "special", I am likely to snack, eat more than I really need plus I've planned legal deserts for Christmas eve & day. I also planned "special" breakfasts for Christmas and Boxing Days. I am trying a few new recipes early next week...I am getting stuck in a rut recipe-wise lately. I wondered if the days leading up to Christmas were a good time to try new recipes...and I decided that if I eat well leading up to the parties/tempations, that I will be more satisfied and less likely to cheat. I've always found that I need variety in my menus, I simply can't eat the same things over and over again. It is worth the extra effort/stress.

Tonight, there were some pretty awesome looking cookies at Flyball practice...That is the second week in a row that there are "evil" snacks at practice. I hope this is a seasonal thing and not a regular occurence from now on! Of course there have been chocolates and cookies, etc in the lunch room at work all week. Today I brought healthy snacks to work for everyone

I can't tell you how many times in the last couple weeks I have repeated to myself "nothing tastes as good as thin feels". It works because it is true.

                I am reporting in

I went to my work christmas party yesterday and did well. There were not really any sweets there so that made it so much easier and plenty of legal things to eat from the appetizers. I had some wine. I do rarely so I am fine with a couple of glasses once in a blue moon. I realized some down side to being smaller - I can drink less before I hit my legal driving limit. No there is a bummer!!

I did wear my skinny pants, almost too small pants, that I bought for the purpose of having to squeeze into something in case I got scale shy. That was very helpful because you cannot really gorge and wear your skinny pants at the same time. So that was one major challenge down. Next week is of course a big one. But I love Christmas turkey so I am not too worried about that one. The rest of my family is not big on desserts. I am the one with a major sweet tooth.
I have been good otherwise. Need to get my run in today and luckily the weather looks nice enough to make it an outdoor run. Hopefully it is not too slippery.
I've decided that the recipe I will try will be egg nog. I am excited. I love egg nog but have not really had any since starting Atkins. So I have to look around and find a good recipe.
Tomorrow is my weigh in day. I am a bit apprehensive. I hope it is not too bad. I will let you guys know.

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels. You are right (new and even more beautiful) JulieB!!!

Fast check in. I have been a busy little bee these past 2 days. Out and about. I am doing good. I am avoiding the scales because of TOM. Water is good, exercise is good, everything is good. I feel 100% and have a lot more energy. Still up most of the nights and waking up early anyway.

                  Back to my busy-ness.

Hi all. Sounds like everyone is doing good...keep it up!

I am doing ok...exercise has been an issue. I have done a bit of "nibbling" that I shouldn't have done but not something I am going to stress over it. Tomorrow is another day.
I did weigh in today and was down 1/2 lb this week. Not much but as long as its going down and not up, I am happy.

Just tired so thats about it for me. Talk to you tomorrow.

I weighed in at 151.5 this morning! I didn't meet goal for my birthday but I'm going to try it for Christmas. I'm feeling great and I'm not feeling tempted in the least! I made no-bake cheesecake for my b-day with an almond crust and it was amazing!

I haven't been exersizing like I should, I really neede to do that so I'm hoping all this week I will be able to do it since there is no school. I feel amazing and look forward to the New Year!

Liv, we like the egg nog recipe from lowcarbluxury.com -- YUM.

Checking in -- I have been doing lots of time on the elliptical in the past few days, am well on my way to making my fitness goals for the month, and I added weights for my abs. I have been doing very good with the water, too.

I was rewarded, as well! The scale said 160.6 this morning! My goal for the month (besides not wanting to gain weight, and when I said that I was 166) was to get down to 160!! I'm really doing this! Man, it feels great!

I'm going to celebrate with a piece of low-carb cheesecake for breakfast this morning. Woo-hoo!!!!

Sounds like people are hanging in there although I can feel the pressure mounting in this thread. But we are the Atkineers so we can deal with it.

Farmwife - great positive thoughts to come to this morning - like it.

Akader sometimes I do sparkly water with lemon or lime to mix things up a bit. It works great.

I weighed in and I am steady around 125 where my goal is. That is a bit amazing because there is a bit more snacking going on these days. The exercise I am still getting in is probably a major help here.

Weight: Weighed in at 125. One week to next weigh in
Sliding -Some items are sneaking in but I am fighting it as best I can
Exercise - I have been very good this week. Because I know I have to if I want to keep 125
Taking care of myself - Yoga is going well. I need to try to clean a bit to get some outer order here. Helps my inner peace.
Cooking - I have bought good veggies and proteins for the fridge so I am eating well for my meals.
Vitamins - Not great yesterday but overall it was a good week. I feel OK __________________

Well, all of the planning and mental toughness seems to be paying off. NOW THIS ISN'T OFFICIAL...but I weighed in under 200 for the first time today. It will be official if I can keep it until my "official" weigh-in on Wednesday. The bizarre thing is that I appear to have lost 4 pounds in the last 2 days...that hasn't happened in a long time. Maybe that 4 hours of shopping/running errands yesterday burned more calories than I thought

My plan for today is to get a good head start of cooking for this week. Am making dinners for the next 3 days this morning, plus my one recipe of evil holiday baking (which is a gift for my cousin). Am going to Mom's for lunch, which will break up my day a bit. Hubby is Curling today as usual, so I'll have the house to myself for a few hours.

Sounds good Julie! I want to do some cooking ahead of the holidays and freeze it if needed. I do tourtiere for Christmas eve. I will either just not eat the crust or I will keep some of the filling in a small dish, crustless, for me. I am also going to make a crustless quiche for Christmas morning, because I always make a stratta for the family. My son and I decided we would do hot wings for one of our appetizers for Christmas day. I am going to make a salad that people can help themselves to when they want.

Goomama and Farmwife...Grats on your weigh ins! Awesome job, especially at this time of year.
