  • Re: Keeping our Cool: December Diet Challenge

I did better then expected today. I made some whole grain buttermilk biscuits last minute and had one and a half, they weren't the best but they were good. I also had some of my mothers stuffing since I hadn't had it is years and it will probably be that long before I have it again, the rest was pretty much legal. Turkey, mash, greenbean, creamgravy (with a little wholegrain flour to thicken it), oh and the cranberry sauce turned out great...got lots left over. I skipped the cheese cake (instant...tons of sugar) and had some of my sugarfree pumpkin pie...yum as well. I am so tired from the turkey though...cold sleep forever. I did have a Belgian BonBon that my mother inlaw gave to me and let the rest be eaten by everyone else.

The snow is melting and the rain has come. Getting warmer again aswell. 4 whole degrees C!

Gift wise, my boyfriend liked his gifts...it was what he needed. I got 2 novels and some speakers. I am happy. Testing the speakers right now.

    Have a great day eveyone.

2nd dinner of 3 down. Completely legally. Totally satisfied, don't feel at all deprived. My MIL actually managed not to make a big deal out of us not eating everything (stuff we CAN'T HAVE OMG HOW DO WE SURVIVE????) Dinner #3 tomorrow may be the tougher one...lots of sweets & snacks...prob my worst yearly overindulgeance-fest every year until now. I shall be strong & enjoy the compliments (I have lost 90lbs since I last saw most of these relatives

proved to be a tough week, but determined to keep going - there is no 'giving up'...
          1. Weight in the 220's the 'majority' of the month - 16/24 **Added 6 days - weighed on Thursday, rather than friday - will weigh again on the 31st
          2. Take my supplements [almost] every day - 14/26 **really bad at this on the weekends!
          3. Journal [fitday] at least 5 days/week - 11/26 **I also fail at this misearably when not at work - this will be a big goal for January!
          4. Lose 5 inches [will measure on 1/1/2010] ** measured today for 6 week challenge and am already down 6 inches but will see what I can do by the 1st

So, all in all it's going rather well. I'm staying under 230; which is huge for me and I've already lost my inches. Now need to just keep it going until the first.

          Great Challenge!

Emotionally this has been a bad week -- temptation was there....it won out yesterday - not horribly but it did happen. I need sleep, less drama in the house and better meal planning.

Water still good/taking my supplements/we'll see what I can manage to salvage between now and the end of the month.

              Well, I survived Christmas!

              But did not exercise yesterday.

Otherwise Supplements, Water, eating, exercise is going well!

I am going to sit down over the next few days and examine what I can do to get the weight loss moving a little better. More Exercise, changing the exercise, more calories, less calories....gonna look everything over and see if I need to change anything or is it just my age and post menopause?

I am going to probably start rung 1 as well, although I already eat a little more veggies here and there.

Oh LIV, I don't think I wanted to know that. It means that anything approaching 35 carbs sets me off

Carbs do give munchies. That is one of the trouble with them. If I up my carbs, even if it is innocent items, I eat more. It is a balance act.
On the other hand, I cheated yesterday by having 1 shot of Brandy, nuts off rung, and a 1" slice of lemon meringue pie. Drank about 64 ozs of water last night when I came home, and haven't had any cravings today?

Other than that, all things good. I've been going out to the playa the last few days, taking my dogs, and going for a nice walk in the sand (about 2 miles) with the dogs. It's been good for all of us

Daily Goal: NO Cheating !! Take Vitamins and Calcium/Magnesium every single day
Weight: NO gain this month. (but of course I'd love to loose)
Diet: Need to start moving through my rungs, at least OWL 3 by the end of the month
Water: in Challenge for 100oz daily
Exercise: Minimum every other day.... ~Complete ABS, Squats, Push-up, and Stability Ball challenges... ~ Use Cross Country Skier (nordic track) at least 3x's weekly...
Planning: Bringing an ice chest with me for snacks, even if going down the road (just in case)
Taking care of me: Not allow others to guilt me into a schedule... in spite of the holidays. Get at least 7 1/2 hours of sleep nightly.
Reward: No idea what to choose here...

JulieB - Look at you. You're a monster but in a good way. I love it. I need inspiration. Relatives are coming in today. I love them but the situation is always stressful but I will stay cool.

                    All of you
Thanks for coming in and fessing up. It is as I said not about what we do in the one moment that counts but what we do in the long run. I am so glad to hear that you guys are just moving on. I don't know how many times people do not do that because illegal foods weaken them. So I am glad to hear that is not the case with you. The purpose if this challenge is making it to the end of the month still doing Atkins. And we are doing good.

I am pretty happy with myself.
My weight has stayed at 125 - I had a weigh in today. I have been running fairly regularly but not sculpting. But Desember is not about being perfect.
Foods have been good but I have probably over eaten some items and gone over with carbs here and there.
I do feel I have kept my sanity through the pressures. Well it is not over yet. I have these few days of the second Christmas with relatives. But I am feeling confident.

                      From my Journal Chat:

I hope everyone had a great holiday!

I am excited to say, this morning, after not weighing, or counting carbs, or exercising for three days, I was down to 159!!! That puts my weight loss at 20 pounds! My hubby weighed in at 215, so he has also lost exactly 20 pounds. This is just wonderful!

I kept up with my water and everything I ate was legal. I didn't stuff myself -- just ate when I was hungry. Oh, except I had more beverages with cream than I would ordinarily.

I got my hubby a bunch of fitness stuff for Christmas. He's been really enjoying weight lifting at work (he works independently and designs electronics, so he's running lots of lengthy tests and has lots of wait time), so I got him some nice lifting gloves and a simple bench. Well, this simple bench has a great way to do abs, so I can do full sit-ups on it. I also got him that Wii Active game with Bob Greene. He did that last night and really enjoyed it.

He got me a food scale, so I'm excited about that. I've always wanted one. I do a lot of eyeballing when it comes to portions.

I guess it will be back to the grindstone for a couple days so we can see a payoff at the new year -- though that will be TOM for me.

                          December 27th:
Weight: I weighed myself for the first time in weeks yesterday. I don't know why I picked the day after christmas but I did. I was 160...pretty good if you ask me. I have had some major whooshes since then (must be the cranberry sause ) and they are still coming, no bloat to be felt.
Diet: Still having to stretch food for 4, sometimes 5 people, when we are already pushing it by buying for 3 (my brother got fired and stopped paying rent...I feel so sorry for boyfriend, having to take care of so many people...we have ran out of savings and it seems like my brother doesn't even care). So a lot of variety there is not. I look for sales on meat and veggies and stock up as good as I can. Car was out of use for most of the week so we are really stretching it. I made tomato veggie soup today and ate that most of the day. Also had 1 and a half flax bread egg sandwiches this morning.
Water: I have totally lost count...drinking but I have no clue how much...
Supplements: I had about 3 servings of flaxbread (made with a little whole grain flour for taste...1,5 cups flaxmeal and 0,5 cup whole grain flour, makes 12 servings.
Exercise: Snow and ice are practically gone but my back is still sore from all the slipping. My brother is going on vacation with his gf tomorrow so I should have some more privacy to exercise.
Planning: New Years is coming and I have found some sugar free "kinderchampange" which I plan to buy and mix with normal champagne or sparkling wine as a treat for having a pretty great year. Besides that my boyfriend is going to be here so we will spend new years together for the first time alone and he said he is going to send my brother outside so we can have a nice dinner, but he is fixing that.
Taking care of me: I hate going to bed but I love sleeping...what a dilema...
Other: Cat had his surgery last Tuesday and had a check up last Thursday. He is doing great. He was on antibiotics for 5 days (2 pills a day) and he only missed one pill (that is good for him). He will need to be on special food for the rest of his life but we have calculated it to being 18 euro a month if he eats the amount it says, but he never does...he eats less.

So here I sit wanting to shower but knowing the hour long shower my brother just took has used all the hot water. I get bad heatrash on my head and cold water just makes it worse. Arggg. I can't wait to move and leave him behind.

                            Good job to everyone.

Carole...chin up and remember tomorrow (or even today) is another day! Every moment is a chance to change. Well, that is what I am trying to tell myself. My life is pretty stressful right now and that is always a trigger for me when it comes to eating. Buts whats done is done so I try to let it go and just try my best now. My exercise has been pretty sad, my eating has been pretty sad. I have been drinking a lot of water and doing my vitamins though. I woke up this morning and felt . I hate that...so that will motivate me too. I miss waking up and being awake! Having some energy.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Checking in tonight.... It's been a busy time for me. I ended up weighing myself on the 2nd month anniversary of starting this WOL and I'm down 25lbs! Yaaaay!

I'm on plan; exercising regularly and picked it up a notch. I do a workout video and later in the day I'm on the Wii Fit. I've found a workout that keeps me captivated; anything related to boxing... Love it.

I've been on vacation for the last week and have another week to go.... My son is off on winter school break and we're having a lovely time together.... If you get the time, catch the movie Avatar... wow!

I hope you are all well and I'm excited for each and everyone here and their inspiring stories.
