Apple... so sorry to hear you've suffered a loss. Now's the time to keep focused on your family, with other things secondary. Hugs sweetie.

Cyn... really hope your foot gets sorted out very soon. Sounds pretty painful.

Jimmie... such a pretty, pretty rose! Looks like it's all set to grow into a spectacle for you. The porch looks grand, and I like the bushes you planted.

As regards the challenge... Jimmie was right: It was originally intended to be a twice yearly (spring and autumn) event.
    The June was an 'extra'.
The plan was to break for the summer as people go on vacation and the weather gets hot (well, not in Australia but...) and then run another in the fall. I also get pretty run off my feet in the summer, so have less time for the board in general. But am open to any suggestions...

    What think y'all?

Good grief! It's already the 28th... so anytime's good for you people to report in that you're "all done".
Unfortunately the last day of the month falls on Saturday, which is our tenant changeover day, so not sure if I'll be able to get on to give out awards; but will definitely get to that on Sunday... Scout's honour!

I'll give out the award links again, to all successful participants, and it's up to those who've already got one from last month, to either add another or change the one they already have, or simply go with the "glow" of achievement and stick with their original award.

I've loved seeing all your lists gradually fill up with "Done's"... and even if some don't quite make the finishing line, seems to me you've all been very hard at it, and burned lots of cals/fat! Yippee!

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I think keeping busy has been a godsend, and calorie burning (not to mention staying away from emotiona eating) too.

Because I'm determined to have a home that's suitable for company....

I've got 8 of the 10 lights done in the house today. The hole filling and painting will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm pooped and arms are tired from holding things up above my head and steadying on a ladder. If sneezing was a sport in the olympics, I think I'd have my chances of winning a silver, if not a gold. Aaah...my house almost feels like a home

So, Miss Sally, I'm thinking I'll be done by Saturday....come you know what or high water. LOL

        Have a great evening everyone!

I'm finally done with my stair area. I took these pics but don't know if you can even see a difference. The walls were a medium shade of yucky green. I painted them white to lighten them up.

          Here is my orginial list:

          1. I am pledging to paint my stair area (walls) going down to the basement. Right now they're a dark green and I've hated them ever since I painted them that dark color. It looks like you're entering a dungeon. I've been putting this off. Done

          2. Take bookcase full of books from one broken down bookcase, move an unused bookcase in it's place and transfer all books to that one. Donate books I don't want any longer to library and haul em down there. Done

          3. Trim bushes out front of my house. Transfer some plants to another bed.
          Done

Kudo's to everybody who worked so hard on this challenge.

Apple, sorry for you loss. You've done well staying on track considering.

Cynthia, my husband had the same thing you have. Heat helped him sometimes, but he suffered something fierce. It's so painful. He finally had to go to the doc and get cortisone (sp) shots, and the doc ordered him to purchase new shoes and wear NOTHING else ( New Balance athletic shoes.) The doctor made him some inserts too. He worn them for about a year, and he never had a problem again. He got so bad with it before he went to the doctor, that he could hardly walk. So, I know you must be suffering.

Jimmie, you really shaped up your yard. It looks so nice. I love your anirondack chairs. I've always wanted some. They look so comfortable, I'd probably fall asleep in them.

Sally, thanks for being our leader and for sponsoring this challenge.

Congrats Mickkey on being the first to claim victory this month! Good for you!
I think you can see a huge difference in the stairs. Can just imagine the lovely scent of new paint in your house. Awesome.

Edited to add: Wait a minute... didn't Cyn report in that she'd finish her list when posting those pics of a really wonderful play area? Will check back.
Well... congrats to Cyn and Mickkey then, for being the first two!

Apple... you're doing sooo well, especially under your present circumstances! I bet your house is ultra suitable for company.

Jimmie... I agree with Mickkey about your porch chairs. They're lovely. I've never seen chairs like those before. Are they a traditional design?
You were all but done too, I think... with just a dot to put on your "i" (clothesline?).

How're you doing Sweet Strudel? Your list was looking almost done!

As for me... I hope to get to the fridge and freezer after lunch today, to finish up my stuff. I know I didn't have an impressive list this time... mainly because of my trip taking a bite out of the middle of the month.

sal, the chairs ar quite popular on this side of the pond. these are designed to fold flat (relatively) and taken to the beach or wherever.
wanna know where we got them?
jack use to smoke and you could get reward points from the ciggy packs. get enough points, cash 'em in, get stuff. we got some cool stuff by cashing those points in. jack doesn't smoke any more so no more stuff but the trade off is better.... he gets to live a healthier lifestyle.

i won't be able to do the clothesline. it was one of those things i maybe could do by myself but the thing is set in concrete and i can't even begin to get rid of it. it will be all jack and none of me. i hope i still get my award. if you tell me that pole has to come out to get my award, you can bet i'll be on jacks butt to get it gone tomorrow!

ya'll, i have a rose that bloomed out on that bush and it smells so good! a hibiscus bloom opened up too and it's so pretty. jack is pleased with the porch area.

                oh one more thing....
sal, you asked our input on taking a break and i think that is perfectly fine. i knew the intent from the start and taking a break for all the reasons you gave is cool. do you remember our early conversations about this challenge and i said i needed it just so i would dust? i dusted yesterday.

I'm lovin' those pics!!! The white staircase looks great!!

One of the climbing rose bushes has its first bloom yesterday. The other had plenty (Blaze), but maybe white roses take longer??

All of my chores are done with the exception of the ones that were dependent on dry soil (tilling) and I could not remove the railroad ties because they are nailed down by rebar (or whatever those long, metal spike things are called). DH couldn't even remove them, so I'm not certain what to do.

I will try to post pictures as soon as I can. No one can figure out what's wrong with my camera. Granted, for a digital it's old, but it's only 6 years old and never gave me any trouble before. As soon as I can afford to either get this one fixed or buy a new one, you'll just have to picture my efforts in your mind. Right now, I can only post the "before" pics which isn't very helpful without the "afters." blah.

Sally---a break is well needed and deserved for the challenge You've been more than great keeping tabs with us. I overlooked that part about the intent of being twice a year....lol...guess I was overzealous (again).

Mickkey---that hall looks like different house all together! I like the light colors to brighten up the stairs. Really cool!

Jimmie---love those pictures. You really did get a work out with all the awesome updates! Oh, I can just imagine that pretty smells of your flowers.

I'm gettin' to work. I may not be back until later tonight...or tomorrow. I have a honey-do list for hubby on top of things that I want done for this challenge...LOL...poor guy thought he was going to get away with just relaxing this weekend.

Bio! Well done on completing all your chores!!! Great work!

I think that when we can't complete a chore due to justifiable, unexpected and unforseen reasons (Jimmie's clothesline and Bio's tilling and the railroad ties), then those should be waived. I reckon everyone knows if they deserve the award or not, and if you report in "All Done", then I'm good with that, on trust. I absolutely think you both (Bio and Jimmie) deserve the award! Well done!

Jimmie... just goes to show there are advantages to smoking!! (kidding... I didn't really say that ). Now though, Jack can relax in his lovely chair and take in huge lungfuls of pure non-smoky air (unless of course you were over-zealous with the dusting!).

As for the challenge... righty-ho then... we'll break for the summer and come back fully recharged and ready to get things spic, span and sorted in time for the winter hols! (unless, of course someone else wants to run another DW challenge, which I wouldn't have a prob with at all).

Ok... as of this afternoon I have the cleanest fridge in town, and the least frosty freezer complete with updated foods list! So... with the pool area completed and major total house cleaning (for tenants arrivals), that puts me at "All Done" too. Phew!

Here are a couple of pics of the pool and house. Sorry they're not "before and afters"... never got around to taking those... but that's what the house and pool have gone back to looking like, even down to the same yellow bedcover (these are agency pics). I wish I'd had pool pics taken of when the work was being done... major upheaval! And the accumulated mess after the winter months was horrid. Cartloads of spiders!

I like the idea of having the DW challenge twice a year. Granted, there are always chores that need to be done, but for me, it's easier to come up with seasonal tasks to do. There's always winter pruning and yard cleanup and tons of stuff to do inside when the weather is nasty. I'm already starting to think of a to-do list for later!
