Re: JUNE - CHORES & EXERCISE Double Whammy Challenge

    1. Mow the front and back lawn on a weekly or twice weekly basis, depending on how fast it wants to grow. Done both.
    2. Weed all flower beds in the back and front yard.
    Done both.
    3. Plant my annuals. Done...all 250 of them...phew!
    4. Wash the outside and inside of my windows (at least on the first floor).
    5. Tidy up the garage.
    6. Clean out the fridge every two weeks.
    7. Go through my clothes and donate those I don't wear to the charity.
    8. Re-mud, sand, prime and wallpaper the spare bedroom (with help from my brother and sister-in-law).

I would like to get several bike rides in on the bike trails around the city too weather permitting.Didn't get any bike rides in this weekend Yard work took priority, but hope to get some in this week.

Boy, some of y'all are really burning it up on those chores! I spent about 4 hours yesterday cleaning out my closet and trying on clothes. That can get to be pretty sweaty exercise after a while. I'm taking a 55 gal garbage sack full of stuff that doesn't fit or I don't like to Goodwill. I still have a little to go to finish, but my closet already looks so much better! Better get back to it.

Got a good portion of my coat closet done today. Was hoping to finish it after the kids went to bed tonight but I'm feeling pretty beat.

Re: JUNE - CHORES & EXERCISE Double Whammy Challenge

Jimmie, we've used a dehumidifier in our basement, but we've found that the holding cup (for the collected moisture) is pretty small in most units when we shopped around. We set ours on some bricks over the basement drain and the excess moisture flows into that instead of having to empty the collection cup every 12 hours or so. When we're not running the dehumidifer, we also have these "rocks" that absorbs moisture from the air. We place them in a bucket or empty coffee can and dump it out as needed. The rocks are reuseable. I have no clue what the rocks are called, but we bought them at Home Depot many, many years ago.

Re: JUNE - CHORES & EXERCISE Double Whammy Challenge

              1. Sort through ALL books and donate unwanted ones to public library. DONE
              2. Weed gardens. South garden--DONE, West garden--getting there!
              3. Start tilling a new area to become a new bed for irises later in the fall & potentially to plant a rose hedge next spring. Too wet!!
              4. Remove parts of old railroad wood & gravel to lay down weed block, replace items, and then place a thick layer of mulch over it. Can't remove the metal rod holding the railroad logs together. Gonna have to go to the next phase. This area is the West garden.
              5. Build a archway arbor for a climbing rose by item #4. Bought some new roses to add to the arbor whenever it gets built.
              6. Haul & distribute lots of horse manure from BIL farm to my house for gardens. Too wet to do any digging.

So, we had about 2 days of dry weather, so I was able to mow the lawn and get some weeding done yesterday. It rained last night though, so at least that will help in pulling the weeds out a bit easier.

I did buy some plants at the garden center yesterday & will go back today for some more plants. There's an area further north of the West garden that is deep shade and has issues with erosion. I think I'm going to make it a hosta garden and also put some rocks down. We'll see.

The garden center was all sold out of the rose bushes I wanted to plant to form a hedge. Unfortunately, most on-line sites are also sold out and I fear it would be too late now to plant any bare-root roses. I'm going to amend chore #3 and just divide the irises and plant them in a new spot. The hosta shade garden will be chore #7.

So much to do, so little time!!!!

Re: JUNE - CHORES & EXERCISE Double Whammy Challenge

bio, thanks for the info. i'm going to chck into the rocks but i'll be doing that at lowes.

that would be cheaper, i am guessing, than running dehumidifier. i never even thought about the cup being emptied so often so i'm glad i asked about this. i wonder if a bag of charcoal would do the same thing? charcoal is good for putting in a frig that isn't being run to collect smells and such, just like newpaper will collect the dampness in a sitting frig. hmmmmm.... i got my thinking cap on now.

                thanks again

Look at all of you getting those chores done. Cool!!!

I'm glad to have company while cleaning out the closets. I didn't think it would be such a big deal, after all, I just "cleaned" things out last fall and just before our yard sale the beginning of the month. Shesssh....I'm such a packrat.

Yesterday after church and inbetween studying for a final, I finished my closet by buying a shoe holder and started working on the pantry.

Two things came to mind: 1. I either need to stop buying shoes or I'll have to have 2 shoe holders in my closet, and 2. I think I need to touch up paint the pantry shelves and get hubby to install a new track for the doors because they keep falling off when you open them.

Oh, and I found that I don't need to buy anymore green beans or beans for at least a month. Nice.

                  June Double Whammy Challenge Chores/exercise:
                  1. Closets, One down, 4 to go
                  2. Garage Organized, Yet to be conqured
                  3. Light Fixtures Cleaned, Yet to be conqured
                  4. Pantry, Started with organizing
                  5. Fridge, Yet to be conqured
                  6. Paint Holes Yet to be conqured

It'll be a nice breezy 92 degrees here today so after my final this morning and getting my walk in for planned exercise, I'll get cracking on closet #2 (hubby's) and 2 shelves in the pantry. You should see the pile of bags that are going to the donation center or for another yard sale at the beginning of July. I'm debating on that one because that means I have to find a place to store all this stuff.

                  Okay, my fellow challengers...

                  Happy Cleaning and exercising!

Jimmie, the rocks are about the size of pebbles...kinda crystally-looking. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try out some charcoal, though I think I'd rather use them for grilling.

Apple, you just got done with finals?? Holy cats, your school runs pretty long! Summer session starts tomorrow for us. blah!

Re: JUNE - CHORES & EXERCISE Double Whammy Challenge

Yep, this is my last week of classes....phew. Oh, I feel for ya, bio. I've taken summer classes before in the past and learned my lesson, I just don't focus well.

I just have to report 2 closets down, 3 to go....and I even clean out our dresser, my desk, reorganized my filing cabinets to make room for all my teacher preparation stuff and latest class work, took out 2 bags of trash, and now have 7 trash bags full of clothes and stuff.

It's like I have to post it so I can see that I'm getting somewhere.

I guess I figured as long as I was working on the closets that I may as well clean out the drawers, desks, and filing cabinets. The only thing left is the stuff under the bed....EEEK! I fear that one. Maybe I should have added "clean my bedroom" to the chore list. LOL. Oh, well, I'll just call it bonus points for doing it.

My class isn't over until the end of next week - but then again, we are on a quarter schedule.

I got my hall closet done today. Will post pics later.

Dug some more holes today, but ran out of composted manure and I need more bags of garden soil since this one area (for the hostas) is nothing but hardpan clay. Back is a little sore, but the knee is holding up just fine.

We'll see how much I can get done during the week with my summer class & work. I might just have to do weeding in small intervals during the weekdays and major stuff on the weekends.

Apple, I'm starting to wonder why the heck I'm taking summer courses this year. *insert major eye-rolling here* Enjoy your summer!!

Cynthia, I can not imagine a quarter system! Sounds scary! Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Here are some updated pics of the garden. Its been just a week and things are coming along nicely. I've been walking up and down the stairs as much as possible. I kinda stopped counting, but I know its at least 2o times a day. My legs are feeling the burn, but it feels good!

michelle, the tomato plants looks so good. i love home grown tomatoes! they are so much better than store bought.

i ended up getting a product called DAMPRID yesterday at LOWES. i hung one of the "bags" in the basement and now we'll just wait to see if it drys the air a bit. next step will be a continued look for the rocks that bio spoke of. i didn't see those but now i am wondering if that product isn't in the garden section of LOWES with the other types of rocks. maybe so.
