Re: JUNE - CHORES & EXERCISE Double Whammy Challenge

Good to see you've recovered from Everest enough to get two chores done already Jimmie! Good job!

I'm adding a chore to my list: Watering two transplanted olive trees when it doesn't rain. This might not sound much, but it actually involves: Tramping up the terraces (steep)to the top of the garden with the hose. Tramping down again to turn on the water. After a good long drenching, tramping up the garden again... carting hose over to the second moved tree (which isn't that close) and repeating with all the same upping and downing. Finally carting the hose back down again.
The hose is probably 50 metres long and quite heavy to drag. I moved the trees with a digger, when making a new driveway and car port. Am keeping fingers crossed that they'll "take". Did a drastic pruning to help them. Olives are such pretty trees!
One difficulty will be remembering to turn off the water! It's town water which is hideously expensive here in Italy, particularly in the summer months. I think I need to set my kitchen timer!

Woo hoo Jimmie gettin' it done...already!!!

            Welcome new friends

Sally...I think you need one of those hose "houses" with a crank handle on it so you can just drag it one way and then reel it in the other. But then again that would defeat the purpose for cardio and weight lifting

Thats a good idea apple... except that I'll only be watering up at the top of the garden this summer... until the trees take. Most of the other watering is on the terrace around the house, so much closer. And you're right, this way is far better exercise!

I see that you too have made a good start to your chores! Good-o!

Hey, I could do this since I just spent half the day working in the yard on the landscaping... will finish up the job tomorrow! It is a lot of work: digging holes, shoveling dirt, raking, moving rocks, planting plants and spreading the bark...(that's my favorite part... it looks so pretty when it's done!) Just love what we've done so far! Makes me feel so happy!
                    Let's see...
also need to clean out my closet, the chest at the end of my bed so I can store the extra blankets in there... and finish the yard... clean the house from top to bottom..
                    okay that's it.

Re: JUNE - CHORES & EXERCISE Double Whammy Challenge

wow! so much stuff getting done already!

sal, i feel tired after reading about your hose lugging.

i started on the basement. jack is going to be able to take the nasty boxes and a dresser to the work dumpster on wednesday so i'll have more room to get my stuff situated. the dresser is an old thing, no good, that was left by the last renters.
i reboxed most of my canning jars and i'll be throwing away the nasty boxes and all the paper from moving, then breaking down the boxes from the move. those i'm keeping because i am not done moving.

anybody in this challenge ever use a dehumidifier in a basement? ours isn't wet but there is moisture in the air. the moving boxes have a slight dampness to them. i was wondering if a dehumidifier would cure the problem. basement windows don't open and i couldn't do that anyway for all the cats in this neighborhood.

Personally, I've never had the need to use a dehumidifier, but my ex-MIL used one all the time at her house and it worked GREAT!

Hey Liz, welcome to our band of busy bees! I'll put you down right now.

Isn't it the truth that getting active in a "useful" way is a great way to feel good? I certainly agree that the planting is the best part of garden work.

Dehumidifiers work wonderfully, I'm told! Should sort out your basement problem nicely.

Actually, I'm in desperate need of one right now, for my eldest's pad. It's a studio flatlet, three steps lower than ground level and is horribly damp. Not good for him... and not good for expensive instruments (violin) either. I keep putting it off until getting the air conditioning installed, which I hope will solve the heating in winter, cooling in summer and, above all, the damp problem... without having to buy a dehumidifier as well. Problem is, they're taking forever to paint the outside element of the conditioner. It has to be painted and put in a recess in the wall with a grating in front of it, because his pad is in the historic centre of town and they won't allow them any other way. Looks like it won't get done until I get back from my holiday now. Grrrrrrr!

Good to see so many of you steaming ahead from the word go! I'm off to do some work on the pool surroundings today!
