You will probably gain if you add the high fat and protein foods, but keep eating bread and drink Coke--if it has sugar. You can't do 'pretty well', you have to do Induction by the book or not at all. Cutting down won't work to do Atkins.

When you lose your appetite, that is part of Atkins and you just make sure to eat a small amount of legal food. Eat at least every 6 hours that you are awake.

Do you have the book??? Have you read it??? If you do and have, you will have read the part where Dr. Atkins told you that if a food wasn't on the list, you were to have none of it--not one bite. That's the only way this will work.

    Sunny!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Re: 14 Day Induction Accountability Thread

Yes i have read the book and understand it, just so hard to give up the coke, but i do realise it wont be successful if dont give it up, its day 1 though so i will get there
        Thanks for tips though
ETA: my loss of appetite today wasnt because of atkins as i have only just started it, its just me in general, but will eat more regularly tommorow

And its coke not diet coke

Will try to drink lots of water tommorow and try to eat more, i just have a lot of trouble eating during the day full stop

So will try small and regular meals tommorow as well, i am just getting the hang of it so hoping by wednsday i will have it all working properly and then i can extend it at the other end to make up for the first couple of days working it out properly

Re: 14 Day Induction Accountability Thread

Belyama, I started a few days before my actual start date "practicing" Atkins. I must have done something right because I lost 5 lbs. before officially starting. However, all I drink is water. I may occasionally drink some detox tea. Try to keep some prepared food that you can grab if you get hungry (chicken, pork chops, pork skins, cheesesticks, etc.). I try to cook on Sunday for the whole week (lunch) so that I can throw it in my cooler and go. You can also get some recipes at www.genaw.com/lowcarb. Sunny also has a site (see prior posts). Both sites have awesome dishes (like quiches, pizza, etc.). I've become addicted to Tuna Muffins (1 carb per muffin). I've also upped my water intake from about 64 oz. per day to around 92 oz. per day. A vitamin supplement will also be helpful. If you have sugar cravings L-gluatamine will help. You'll get the hang of it and soon it will be habit (21 days to form a habit). However, as Sunny said you have to stick to the foods on induction so that you will know how metabolically resistant your body is to losing weight (high, average, or low). Just hang in there and check in daily (believe me it helps). We're rooting for you!

Hi Charlie!! Glad you've joined us. I made a mistake at the beginning of induction (was eating Balsamic dressing). I didn't know it was a no-no. It had 1 carb and 1 gram of sugar so I thought it was ok. I just corrected my program with the next meal. Glad to see you were able to jump back on track.

Lily1313, my weekend was ok. Yours? I did grocery shopping and cooking last night. I'm trying burgers and porkchops this week. For some reason, I'm finding it very hard to eat chicken. It's probably because that was always the main staple for me with other diets and I don't want to feel like I'm on a diet anymore (just a way of life). I've noticed my energy level is so much better. I've had chronic fatigue for years with docs telling me nothing was wrong. Dr. Atkins said this would help clear it up and I do believe he is right. Nothing has helped, not even meds to try to keep me awake (would fall asleep at my desk, fall asleep driving, etc.). Not a good thing.

          Stats:

Lost 10 lbs. total since 09/24/07 (5 lbs. since officially starting Atkins on 10/01/07). I've lost 4 and 1/4 inches over my entire body (see below).

          Inches Lost:
          -Neck (1/4 inch)
          -Chest (1/4 inch)
          -Waist (1 inch)
          -Stomach (1/4 inch)
          -Right Arm (1/2 inch)
          -Left Arm (1/4 inch)
          -Hips (1/2 inch)
          -Right Thigh (1/2 inch)
          -Left Thigh (1/2 inch)
          -Right Calf (1/4 inch)
          -Left Calf (stayed same)

I'm so psyched!!! Well, I must get back to work again. Have a great day everyone and I'll check in with you later.

Good Monday Morning! Day 8 for me!

I haven't been able to catch up on the thread from Friday on, but will do so later! Wanted to pop in and say Hi! Stayed on plan, did the same as purple cat yesterday, made up lunches and some things so that I can always be prepared! I can't wait to re-measure!

BBL - Let's make it a great Monday!

Hi ThinSoon! How was your weekend? What goodies did you prepare for this week?

Question for anyone who can help me. These rungs you keep talking about...what are they? I don't see info about it in the Atkins book that I have. Is it only explained in the 2002 version? I just ordered it off of ebay (2002 version). I actually ordered 2 by mistake. It's the hardback (supposed to be a new book). I also ordered some kind of tapes that explain the Atkins plan (actually it's 2 tapes & a book so I might have 3 of the Atkins books - LOL). I just pray they come before I go off induction so I'll know what to do for the next phase.

In my "Atkins for life" book it talks about the rungs. I haven't read it for awhile. I'm sure someone will answer your question soon.

Re: 14 Day Induction Accountability Thread

There are several useful threads at the top of the OWL forum explaining how to start OWLing.
BTW in DANDR Dr Atkins doesnt actually say the word 'rung' but talks of the different 'levels' of what he calls the 'carbohydrate ladder'.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: 14 Day Induction Accountability Thread

I think I have the 2002 version also, I don't know if it states rungs, but it is the phases -

                        Phase 1 - induction
                        Phase 2 - OWL
phase 3, 4 are add in phases I think and then phase 5 is maintenance. I think they mean the same thing as rungs....

Ok - this weekend I had to work both days but it was at my PT job of - waitress! YEP, I resisted everything, which to be honest, isn't that hard to do. We are usually busy and then after seeing food all day the last thing you want is food for about an hour after working... LOL So I took salad and egg salad with me and that kept me good.

Here is what I cooked up for a few days:
                        Egg salad
Fried cabbage and separated in measured containers
                        turkey hot dogs
turkey burgers (I eat them with horseradish mustard YUM!)
Chopped up veggies for omelettes and bot some salsa for the Spanish version
Cooked up some bacon - bot eggs
Tuna - have to make tuna salad yet but veggies are cut up
Chicken - can boil up chicken for chicken salad
I have broccoli and cauliflower in the freezer
Have tilapia in freezer ready for anytime (so easy to make and fast)
Have shrimp in freezer and can of chop suey veggies for shrimp stir fry this week
Bot pumpkin ingredients for Pumpkin Cheesecake - yes the legal kind!
Also bot one can of pumpkin for myself - last night took 1/4-1/2 cup of pumpkin, added pumpkin spices, heated in microwave and topped with whipped creme - gives a little variety to the meat/fish/chicken and veggies.

Today my menu so far is:
B- 2 turkey burgers with horseradish mustard
                        L- egg salad
                        S - fried cabbage
                        Pre-workout snack - 1 or 2 turkey hot dogs
Dinner - not sure - probably Spanish omelette since I've had that on the brain!

What does everyone else have ready ahead of time? Menu for today?

Thanks Elizellen and Tracey! I was just worried about not having the proper tools to continue. I am not sure what I'm having tonight. Taco salad (sans the shell)? We'll see. So far I've had bacon, eggs, pepperoni slices (1 serving), 2 cheese snackables, porkchop, salad, ranch dressing, and a tuna muffin (10 carbs total).
Ok, my break is up. Back to work!!

**Great job Tracey ignoring the food on your job. I do understand though. I used to work in a restaurant and just the smell of the foods they cooked made me nauseaus after I left. Being around it all the time makes it way less appetizing.

Purplecat - strange huh? I seem to have more problems at my desk job!

Today seems to be tough this afternoon, I just want something to nibble on! UGH! I ate my two turkey hot dogs already but I forgot I did cut up lettuce and brought that in also with some dressing... guess I could go for that...

That was another thing I did yesterday for preparation. Good thing I have all this food here... I do check myself every night on the keto sticks and yes I know they are not always reliable, but I've been bright purple since last Tuesday, the day after I started!

Ok...going to GULP more water and maybe get that salad... haha

I will not cave into those candy corns!

Hello Everybody!!! I am a newbie and have been on Atkins Induction for 6 days as of today. This is my first time doing Atkins and I am looking forward to gaining as much knowledge as possible from everybody. I have done fairly ok, I have had minor slip ups as a result of me being unclear on a few things, but am ultimately positive and look to make this a way of life.

                              Today I ate the following:
                              Breakfast
2 boiled eggs with light salt and pepper
                              Lunch
Tuna Lettuce wraps(with 2 leafs of romaine lettuce)
Tuna(contained 2 eggs, mayo, mustard, 2 cans of tuna, and a little less than 1tbsp of sweet relish)
                              Dinner
                              Salmon w/ a side salad

With every meal I try to drink at least 3 cups of water. And I drink water on and off throughout the day!!!

                              Good Luck everybody
                              Induction: Week 1 completed
This is my 1st time on Atkins!!!!

                              Me 10-15lbs lighter

                                Morning (well for me anyhow)

I am going to try really hard today to get it all right, have all the right food in the house so should be ok to do it

Going to be so hard to eat regularly though, but i will give it a try
