  • Re: eggnog shake for breakfast!!!

A company representative will always tell you the drops are safe.

You are right in saying that propylene glycol was only showed to be dangerous at high concentrations/quantities. The ingredients in Capella drops are distilled water, propylene glycol, natural and artificial flavor. Using a few drops of a liquid containing propylene glycol does not classify as "high concentration/quantity". I would not use it on a regular basis though, for the same reasons why I only use Splenda occasionally (read, a few times a year), even though it is considered perfectly safe; I prefer eating natural, minimally processed stuff.

From a weight loss perspective, personally I would be more worried about natural and artificial flavors. I know most people are fine using products that contain flavors, but I had bad experiences with teas containing these mysterious "flavors" (they give me blood sugar symptoms even though there is no caffeine or anything else fishy in them), although I can otherwise drink teas just fine (I prepare them at home, from herbs, spices, etc.).

Thanks Georgiana. It wasn't the company's assurance that made me less hesitant. It was my googling. I appreciate the feedback and do not plan to use them too often. I just don't know that it's worth my time and effort to return them since I can only return a couple since I opened the others before I realized. Thanks again.

That could be the raw eggs... I discovered I can't have the raw eggs after having a major stomach ache drinking the shake. Who knew I have a food intolerance to raw eggs?

If you try it again without the drops, and your stomach is unhappy, I would consider considering the eggs...

I tried this for the first time a few days ago. It's yummy, especially when you blend ice into it

I think it sounds gross too, but I'm still going to try it because if it's good it will make my life soooo much easier in the mornings!

Might try it out tomorrow morning, just hope I don't get a major stomachache. I still remember the one I had about three years ago, yes it was that memorable.

Sounds good. I've found that mixing egg whites out of the carton with my coffee flavored whey protein powder is the bomb. I think I may try it with egg beaters instead so that more fat is added. Or maybe I'll add some kind of fatty oil like coconut oil and try a chocolate flavor low carb whey powder.

Ok, I just made this shake and I have to say that it really doesn't taste eggy, which is a HUGE plus, of course, but I don't really think it tastes like anything at all. I threw a little ground cinnamon in it for some added flavor, but it's still sort of lackluster. It'll definitely do if I need something fast but I'm going to have to tinker with it a bit if it's going to be something that I look forward to for breakfast!

Oh My Gosh is this good! I used 2 fresh eggs, 1 oz cream, 1 tsp vanilla, about 1/2 cup crushed ice and blended. For those of you who say they don't have time for breakfast, No more.
I have a Zyliss quick blend shaker container, and I love it. Put your ingredients in the container, the blender blades on my Oster screw right on to it, put it directly on the base and blend, and you have a cup of breakfast to go.

I've been making these every day for breakfast for weeks--so perfect!

Usually I add pumpkin and cinnamon, but this morning I added 1 Tablespoon cocoa, and 1 Tablespoon of Almond butter. YUMMY!!

I use lots of ice in mine. Perfect breakfast!

                            Here's one of my "recipes":

                            4 eggs
1 T heavy cream (it's thick, so it goes a long way!)
                            1/2 cup water
                            1 cup ice cubes
                            1/2 cup pumpkin
                            big dash cinnamon
                            2 T Splenda
                            1/2 tsp vanilla

It's SOOO good. If you want to leave out the pumpkin and cinnamon and have vanilla, it tastes just like a vanilla shake (to me)!

My 5 year old AND my husband both love this as well--and they're not on Atkins.

Well,,,, I guess you have to like eggnog to think this sounds good. The ingredients are almost the same. If you don't like eggnog, disregard this whole thread.

I used 2 whole eggs, 1 oz shotglass of cream (= 2 Tbs), 1/2+ tsp vanilla extract, 1 drop of liquid splenda (= 1 1/2 packets), 1 Cup crushed ice, and blended.

I do exactly the same as Kntrylady - but I add a scoop of unflavored protein powder. Easy way to up the protein and also sticks with me longer. Love them.
