      Yeah, I signed up on page 2 of the thread. I'm not going to measure myself daily, it was intended to be tounge-in-cheek. I'm looking forward to freedom from the scale. The scale is tucked in the cupboard until next Sunday's weigh day.

        Hi everyone!

        Checking in for day one! This morning's weigh-in = 181.0

        Let me tell you ... I just know it's going to really be a 'challenge' to stay off the scale for an entire week! But, thankfully, I have this Thread to check in with an keep accountable.

          Good morning fellow losers (and that makes us all winners! )
          Today, March 22, NO weighing.

          Oh, and there are already 2 major advantages:
          1. I can drink as much water as I want when I wake up in the night or early in the morning. I don't have to be scared that it will show on a scale
          2. Yesterday I ate smoked salmon which is pretty salty. I must be holding liquid in my body now, but there is no scale to make me feel down today, ha! (Yeah, I'm free!)

          From Thursday on I will make sure I will eat as less salt as possible. So that I will have a nice surprise coming Sunday on the scale. I will keep on drinking lots of water though, because the more you drink the less water your body will hold.
          But eh... Saturday night, when I wake up in the night or early in the morning I will only take a sip when thirsty. To have an optimal scale day on Sunday. Hmm, I guess I'm not free. Oh well, call me crazy

            All right!! No weighing today. Didn't do it and now that I have eaten, I know I am safe for today. Good point, Ingrid, about being able to drink as much water as you want. It is a bit of freedom not to worry about the scales!!

            I cannot believe you are in The Netherlands, too. We are the minority for sure.

            what the rungs mean to me:
            rung 1 - more veggies
            rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
            rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
            rung 4 - berries, melon
            rung 5 - wine -
            rung 6 - beans, hummus
            rung 7 - other fruits
            rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
            rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
            Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
            (on to pre-maintenance)

                Ok, I did weigh yesterday - but forgot to post. I'm officially starting at 240 [which is horrible]. But, late in the day and I normally weigh on Fridays - so will just deal with it and make sure it goes down by next Sunday!!!

                  farley has shared what he did with his scale and i think i remember a couple more of you telling what you did with yours. anybody else like to share? i've heard some funny funny things over the years while leading this challenge.

                    Monday morning and no weigh. I use the wii fit as a scale so I have just have to skip the body test for the week which is ok with me.
                    Mini Goals
                    139- Met 2/10/10
                    135- Met 2/25/10
                    130- Met 3/21/10
                    129- So I can say I am in the 120s- Met 3/29/10 128.7lbs yay
                    125- 4/20/10 5 to go!

                      we all know that late in the day is not the "official" weight. goes along with hair must me dry, no jewelry, and so on.

                      i love the 'safe for the day'. i feel the same way. once you've eaten, nothing is official no matter what the scale says. lol

                      love the list of advantages, ingrid! i've always found that staying scale free for a period of time really makes me think of what i'm eating. i think i see the same thing for you

                      you might be surprised how fast a week can fly by. be busy with stuff and you might not think about the scale hardly at all!

                        as for me on this monday morning, i'm feeling a bit 'puffy' today. i didn't drink as much water as i should have yesterday so i suppose my body is hanging on to whatever it got. so stepping on the scale would not be a good thing so i won't. scale free so far!

                        myjack is in a hotel somewhere down by orlando. i know the kind of hotels the company provides..... they don't come with scales. lol

                          So, I haven't weighed myself today, and don't like it one bit. How am I supposed to know how I did yesterday? I did do one of those ketone strip things, I hope those dont replace my scale habit, they are not cheep. Anyway, now I just have to skip my noon and before bed weigh in. First 3rd of the day is a success.

                            The number you see on the scale one day does not necessarily reflect "how you did" the day before.

                            And even if you eat the same things every day, you won't lose the same amount of weight each day... which doesn't mean you did better one day or the other, since you ate the same foods, right?

                            If you are following the plan as written in the book, you are doing fine.

                            Nor are they telling you whether you're following Atkins correctly.

                            You can be in ketosis without following Atkins correctly.

                            And if the sticks don't change color, don't panic... it doesn't mean you're not in ketosis anymore. It just means there's no excess acetoacetate (one kind of ketone body) excreted in urine at the time of measurement.

                                didi, i agree with georgiana on those points. those stix are a tool, not an absolute so try not to depend them. also, the readings on them can vary during the day. after you eat, exercise, going hungry.... all these things, and more, can change the reading.

                                your best bet is to follow the plan. if you are on owl rung 1, then follow that according to your book and i think you will be just fine.
