I'll second that on the house! Is that your home, Guy?! It is simply beautiful!! Admittedly, I got distracted by that after the initial shock of your great progress so far!

Hi Julie!! Congrats on getting into the 170s!!

Yep, answered prayer! I have NO idea how well I'm going to lose until things shake out with meds and all so I went conservative on a goal. In my mind, I am shooting for 20 pounds, 10 pounds a month. But who knows what some treatments for any lingering cancer may do... Ugh! I'm going to be SO glad when this has passed and I can just focus on this WOL hard!

It's so fun to see everyone losing here and there! It's all adding up for each one of us! This Challenge has been just a hoot! Emma REALLY cranked things up with her big loss, and ever since, this place is just exploding!

I'm feeling good today so I may have to really burn up some fat and dump a load of sweat! hahahaha!!

*Do you know someone who can "eat all they want" and never get fat? How has this affected your self-image/self-worth/self-esteem? Do you ever feel "It's NOT FAIR!"?
yep, i think we all do, i understand its in the genes and all that but.. my own brother?? hmph! he must be following my daddys side thats for sure! that as a one thing never really affected my self esteem, it was their ribbing digs that hurt the most and made me become so self concious.

*Do you think the people who can "eat all they want" are as healthy as they might seem, or are they slowly killing themselves? Is this an example of "skinny fat?"
its a true example of skinny fat! they are killing themselves! it will all come back to haunt them one day!

*Do you think you're eating more, less, or the same, volume-wise, than you ate previously?
I'm eating less, but out of choice, i probably ate more during induction but since then my appetite has supressed so much i struggle to eat most days.

*Since it's not how much you eat, but WHAT you eat that counts, what was a typical day's menu like for you, pre-Atkins? Plug this menu into fitday and see what the nutritional info is.

          Cals - 2632 carbs - 304 fat - 103 protein - 146

*Have you always been confused by your eating problem? What I mean is, are you a determined, focused, hard-working, responsible individual who feels in-control of all aspects of their life except food and weight?
Not at all, most of the time i dont feel like i'm in control of any part of my life, now at least i'm in control of my health.

I actually did this yesterday. It's pretty disgusting and very sad. Here is a typical day's menu from last year at this time:

4 HUGE buttermilk pancakes with chocolate chips, bananas, syrup and butter
            10 large chocolate chip cookies
            1/2 frozen pepperoni pizza
            1/2 bag of potato chips
            2 bacon double cheeseburgers
            2 orders of curly fries
            1 chocolate malt
            8 cans of soda

            NUTRITIONAL INFO:
            9036 calories
            450g fat
            1025g carbohydrates
            39g fiber
            245g protein
            986 NET CARBS

OH - MY - GOD! Seeing that and knowing my diet really wasn't all that different at one time just made my stomach queasy. I used to drink a ton of Mountain Dew, and you have to throw in Snickers candy bars, too.

            Un-frickin'-believable...

one of my best friends eats all she wants and doesnt get fat...didnt even gain weight when she stopped smoking. She is a natural size 2...it drives me insane...I don't like going to social events with her because it is sure that I get ignored because she is so petite and cute...LOL...I do feel that it is not fair, but hey! that's life I guess!

*Do you think the people who can "eat all they want" are as healthy as they might seem, or are they slowly killing themselves? Is this an example of "skinny fat?"
some of those people are healthy, but I am convinced that a lot of them are fat inside...
*Do you think you're eating more, less, or the same, volume-wise, than you ate previously?

volume wise I am eating about the same, but totally not the same things! I have always had large portions...but they used to be pasta and rice...now it is meat and vegies...

*Since it's not how much you eat, but WHAT you eat that counts, what was a typical day's menu like for you, pre-Atkins? Plug this menu into fitday and see what the nutritional info is.

LOL!!! Do I hafta? I totally know it is going to say 80% carbs...and that is NO exageration!

You said a mouthful there Juli! I am "Miss Control" until I face a plate of pasta, rice, or worse, fresh crusty bread...but I am doing so well now...even when I have "cheated" , it was not with pasta or rice (oops...did have sushi once)...it has been with overdoing the nuts and vegies...oh yeah...and strawberries for the past 2 weeks cause they are in season and soooo yummy!

Great replies, everyone! I think this is a topic that really hits home.

The first time I posted what my old menu used to be (I did this a while ago in my journal) people were flabbergasted. I think they thought I was making it up. It truly sickens me to see what I used to eat ON A DAILY BASIS. Good god, no wonder I was so overweight. I must be blessed with a fast metabolism, because I don't know how I didn't weigh MORE, eating 9000 calories a day. And that's the real shame. I have the ability to be at a healthy weight, and I've HAD the ability all these years, but I just flushed it down the toilet. I don't know if I didn't care or if I was in denial. Probably a combination of both--I knew I was overweight, but didn't think it was that bad.

*Do you know someone who can "eat all they want" and never get fat? How has this affected your self-image/self-worth/self-esteem? Do you ever feel "It's NOT FAIR!"?

Yep, there was a gal I used to work with who had a very high metabolism. She HAD to eat roughly every two hours or she would waste away to nothing. She also had a high energy level so that added to her situation.

It all bothered me more when I ate like a bird, believing that fewer calories meant weigh loss. Still, I see people with lean, healthy bodies and a pang does go through me. More than anything, I want to be STRONG and healthy. I'm sick of walking around like I'm 80 years old. Being thinner is just icing on the cake.

*Do you think the people who can "eat all they want" are as healthy as they might seem, or are they slowly killing themselves? Is this an example of "skinny fat?"

It all depends on what they're eating. Garbage in, garbage out. Page 14 of Chapter One focused on the three basic elements of our foods. That made me realize that certain diets with particular combinations of particular foods really doesn't mean squat. Protein, Fat, and Carbs are the main targets here. So someone who lives on ramen noodles day after day is NOT doing her body any good. Her body is probably canabalizing itself and eating up muscle to maintain other functions. Hence, the "skinny fat."

*Do you think you're eating more, less, or the same, volume-wise, than you ate previously?

I'm eating less, yet still filling up more. Some days I don't eat that much because I'm just not that hungry, the next day I am quite hungry so I'll eat more. That's been a big chance since coming on board here; I've become more self-aware of my body's need for food (or not) and am just going along with it. It's not cravings or blood-sugar drops, it's simply a solid growling stomach that says "I need chow now!" I give it enough to feel satisfied, at times a bit stuffed, and then I'm done. I try not to go longer than six hours but it happens occasionally, and I'm still ok.

*Since it's not how much you eat, but WHAT you eat that counts, what was a typical day's menu like for you, pre-Atkins? Plug this menu into fitday and see what the nutritional info is.

I'll do this later, but it's pretty comparable to Julie's. ...yeee!...

*Have you always been confused by your eating problem? What I mean is, are you a determined, focused, hard-working, responsible individual who feels in-control of all aspects of their life except food and weight?

Ironically, my eating and weight problem was the one thing that felt out of control. Everything else was good. I tried to follow the "experts'" advice on how to eat healthy and just couldn't figure out why I kept gaining and felt like total crap all the time. Atkins finally shown me how to resolve all that. Then our plant closed and I returned to school.

Since last summer, most of my life was out of control except for school. I was wearing down, getting sicker without knowing why, and was desperate to finish school well and graduate with honors. After that, I collapsed into all kinds of health problems. Now, my eating is the one thing in control (since I started induction again )while everything else is out of control. One day at a time - we'll get there yet...it's Trial by Fire at the moment.

                  • Re: WORK IT!: The 2007 Labor Day Challenge Thread, Sign-up and Reporting

First of all...woooooo hoooooo Julie for getting into the 170's. I can't wait to see that second digit be a 7....been about 20 years since I was there and I can't wait to go back. WTG girl!

*Do you know someone who can "eat all they want" and never get fat? yes, I'm sure we all do, I know many people like this actually. How has this affected your self-image/self-worth/self-esteem? I don't think it personally affected me in any of these ways other than perhaps jealousy or envy that they could eat the same things as I ate but stay thin while I continued to get fatter. Do you ever feel "It's NOT FAIR!"? I have to say that I used to think Its NOT FAIR, but now since being on Atkins I don't have that feeling anymore. As a matter of fact sometimes when I think about it, I feel sorry for them because even though they can eat whatever they want they are slowly killing themselves with all the junk and carbs, processed foods and sugar they put into their systems. Also because they will never have the need to lose weight they will never experience what we all have. We know what it is like on both sides of the fence. They most likely won't ever have that comparison.

*Do you think the people who can "eat all they want" are as healthy as they might seem, or are they slowly killing themselves? Guess I already answered that above. Just because someone is skinny doesn't mean they are healthy...as a matter of fact sometimes quite the opposite. And, I think as we get older a little bit of meat on our bones is more attractive...not fat but not skinny either. Is this an example of "skinny fat?" Yes, I would agree with that. They are skinny looking but I bet if you did blood work on them some would come back with outrageous results.

*Do you think you're eating more, less, or the same, volume-wise, than you ate previously? Some days more some days less. I know what I am eating makes me full faster and I now listen to my body when its full so I don't ever overeat. Obviously my choices are better.

*Since it's not how much you eat, but WHAT you eat that counts, what was a typical day's menu like for you, pre-Atkins? Plug this menu into fitday and see what the nutritional info is. Oh Lord, that will be scary. Will need to do this later and post it then.

*Have you always been confused by your eating problem? What I mean is, are you a determined, focused, hard-working, responsible individual who feels in-control of all aspects of their life except food and weight? I am not sure I was ever confused by my eating problem. It just was. I have been overweight since I was a child so I really haven't known anything else. I haven't ever been in control of all aspects of my life either even though people say I'm a control freak. I know now I'm in control of my weight and after that all other aspects of my life will follow.

Congrats to so many people-wow-those pounds and inches are sliding right off! You guys rock! Today was my weigh day...down 3 lbs..and no inches. So am now 167lbs which is mentally better than 170! Only measured my bust , waist and hips though and my daughter says I've taken off weight in my upper arms so maybe doing some other mesurement today will happen. Been a crazy week-going to a wedding on the weekend and had to take my rental date (haha-friend) out to buy clothes-yesterday. Hoping for pics by the end of the day as well but am still figuring out stuff with this site and this borrowed Mac.

                              • Re: WORK IT!: The 2007 Labor Day Challenge Thread, Sign-up and Reporting

I think I just broke the fitday calculator!!!

*Do you know someone who can "eat all they want" and never get fat? How has this affected your self-image/self-worth/self-esteem? Do you ever feel "It's NOT FAIR!"?
My brother…it’s not fair, I’m jealous of him. He eats ½ a bag of chips ahoy at a time…..
*Do you think the people who can "eat all they want" are as healthy as they might seem, or are they slowly killing themselves? Is this an example of "skinny fat?"
I think they may be slowly killing themselves, or It will catch up to them someday.
*Do you think you're eating more, less, or the same, volume-wise, than you ate previously?
Volume wise is less, I used to really be a pig as you will see at the bottom.

*Since it's not how much you eat, but WHAT you eat that counts, what was a typical day's menu like for you, pre-Atkins? Plug this menu into fitday and see what the nutritional info is.

This is what I had the day before I stated Atkins and was a very typical day for me.

*Have you always been confused by your eating problem? What I mean is, are you a determined, focused, hard-working, responsible individual who feels in-control of all aspects of their life except food and weight?

Oh yah, I love food and there is no stopping me…I’m so bad that right after breakfast, I’m already planning lunch and I always watch the clock…Then I’ll eat lunch ½ early because I can’t stand it. Right after lunch, I’m planning dinner and try to snack as much as I can before dinner to relieve the anxiety.

Ps. I don’t that anymore…..don’t every think much of eating, except for my cravings of DOM’s cheesecake.
