Emma, that sounds like a plan. Shoot for 35 the rest of this week, then bump up. Like I said before, I'm at 50-57 and losing again - well no loss today but that's par for the course.

Have more veggies, try new veggies that are slightly higher in carbs and just don't eat grains every day.

It would be great if we all could make bumping up the carbs part of this challenge, there's so many weeks left we will all be able to see if it works for us. Work It - as in work those carbs and find our CCL's once and for all!

Oh, poor thing! I hope you're better now. I would say to carry on as you normally would. It's not the end of the world, just watch the carbs for a few days and drink lots of water. You may have fallen out of ketosis with the saltines, but that doesn't mean you're not losing weight anyway.

Silly, I agree about the carb-raising being part of the challenge. I think that's a GREAT idea! I nominate you to be MC--Master of Carbs.

So is it going in and out of ketosis what causes this?

Is there another section we can have this conversation, I'd hate to hijack this thread

Self, you can discuss that here, right julie?

When you eat bad carbs (saltines) you generally get immediately out of ketosis. But, a day or two off them and 100% on plan again and you're right back in. It's not harmful, just slows down the process.

So I can expect another 2-3 days of detoxic shall we say?

Rather than "issuing" formal discussion prompts today, I just wanted to share some scary statistics with you from Chapter 2, DANDR.

*In the crucial sixty-year time span between 1910 and 1970, when coronary heart disease escalated from a yet-to-be-recognized problem to the killer of more than half the population, this is what happened to America's diet: The intake of animal fat and butter actually dropped a little, while the intake of cholesterol was not changed. Meanwhile, the intake of carbohydrates (mainly sugar, corn syrup, and white flour) escalated by sixty percent. (page 22)

*Two hundred years ago the average person ate less than 10 pounds of sugar a year, and white flour was used much less commonly. About a hudnred and ten years ago the lid blew off the sugar canister. In the 1890s, the craze for cola beverages swept the nation--which means that when we were thirsty and craved water, we got sugar as well. To make matters worse, the mills that could refine wheat into white, nutritionally barren flour were developed in the same decade. (page 23)

*Sugar intake, which had averaged 12 pounds a year per person in 1828, was nearly ten times that in 1928. The latest Department of Agriculture statistics show that the average American consumed 124 pounhds of caloric sweeteners in 1975. By 1999 it had risten to 158 pounds. (page 23-24)

*These figures represent 190 grams of sugar a day. Compare that with the 300 grams of carbohydrate the government expects us to consume each day, and we see that sugar now comprises over sixty percent of the carbohydrate total. (page 24)

*The whole problem of sugar was compounded by the low-fat messages we were wrongly bombarded with during the 1980s and 1990s. To make a low-fat product taste good, manufactureres add lots of sugar...The United States has "low-fatted" and "dieted" itself to a raging epidemic of obesity and diabetes. (page 25)

*Number of state in which 35% of more of adults are overweight:
                        1988--7 states
                        1992--17 states
                        1996--28 states
                        1999--46 states (page 2

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PERCENTAGE IS NOW?

I'm guessing 49 states. Not sure which one I think ISN'T....
