Yup, ketosis is like being pregnant--either you ARE or you AREN'T!!!

I've never used ketostix--I just look for other signs: appetite supression, energy, weight loss, losing inches, looser clothing, etc.

Each person has a different carb threshhold (CCLL) and ketosticks do a pretty good job of letting you know if you're getting close--they stop changing color when you're close to your CCLL. Which is great news if your CCLL is under 50. If you're eating 50g carbs or more per day, they won't change color, even if you ARE in ketosis. Some people may eat up to 100g per day and still be in ketosis.

Ketostix only tell you if you're burning fat--they don't tell you if it's fat from your food, or fat from your body. They can also give faulty readings if they're old, or if you're dehydrated. So use them if you want, but don't depend on them. Let your tape measure be your guide!

The super good news is that I got some lab work done and just from two weeks, the doctor is letting me drop one of my glucophage tabs a day so down from 1,500 to 1,000...not too shabby!

A FEP point is a Fake rEP point. I got the idea because it was so frustrating to not be able to rep someone until you've repped 10 other people...so I decided to start giving people FEP points as a way to show appreciation.

Hi! GREAT JOB DEB! meds change is HUGE! You're doing it darlin'!!

Ok, So I want to get in on this OWL upping carbs convo. I think adding it to the challlenge is a FANTASTIC IDEA! Or make a new one. It thrills me and scares me all at the same time.

I'm in my 2nd week of OWL rung 1. I've been pretty decent with my carb counts and am excited and nervous to go to dairy. Which brings me to my first question: Being the rebel I am, I have always had my (un)fair share of dairy daily. From the beginning I have had more than the allowed amounts of dairy. Should I skip that rung? I know the dairy doesn't affect me too grand so I feel bored at going to that rung since I already have the amounts listed allowed.

(INDUCTEES: I would have had a much bigger loss in induction if I had stuck to the amounts allowed, don't do this!)

No, don't skip it! There are "NEW" foods on that rung that you should try, like yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta, mascarpone, queso fresco, goat cheese, etc. You might be surprised at the foods that you enjoy now. If you would have told me cottage cheese was going to be one of my favorite foods, I would have peed my pants laughing.

Now, my advice is either to add 5g carbs and stay with veggies for another week, or move up to dairy but stay at your current carb level.

if you eat under 100 carbs your body will be in ketosis... you can be in ketosis and NOT lose weight.

this is why the sticks are kinda pointless.... i had them the first time round, still have some left but ive not used them, i dont need too, its just another bloody addiction like the scales.
You are right, they are addicting, i should throw them out....they have really brought me down tonight : (
It is that TOM also, so maybe that's it...i didn't realise that would knock you off. Thanks, you made me feel better.

I'm guessing it's not that low. But that's why I always stick with something for 2 weeks, whether it's a carb level or a rung or whatever. I really, truly, highly doubt your CCLL is 25! How much did you lose on induction? That will give us a good estimate of where your CCLL will be.

I think that you should trash them! What if you had a large water intake and they were too diluted to read? What if you had a bad stick?

I lost 13 pounds in induction, but i think i messed up the carbs because i was using fit day and didn't know you had to subtract the fiber...when i looked back i realized i was only getting about 13 - 15 carbs a day. Could that have messed my system up?
