Great point about the cheating aspect. Once you discover all of the food rungs you can pretty much eat anything so the urge to cheat isn't so great. Eventually it does become lifestyle.

For what it's worth, I still don't eat starchy veggies or grains. I will have a yam on occasion and I did eat peas recently.

I was also afraid to move up and was stuck at 152 for over 2 1/2 years until I went off the path entirely-but I never added in the grains only did limited fruit-berries very occasional melon....and kept the carbs no higher than 35 maybe 40/day with mega excercise so this interests me big time!

Julie and Pula-thanks for your kind words earlier today. So many nice people on this site.

Off topic here-I am testing out my new pics-thanks to my daughter's help tonight. I didn't think I'd be able to handle this but here goes......

*Do you think the people who can "eat all they want" are as healthy as they might seem, or are they slowly killing themselves? Is this an example of "skinny fat?"

here's what i think is skinny fat...my skinny friend kathy eats crap, never gains weight, but always has headaches, feels fatigued, has bad sleep patterns, and smokes like a chimney. my skinny friend lindsay doesn't really seem to eat, ever! and she suffers from bad teeth, bad sleep patterns, hair loss, and chronic fatigue. my skinny friend melissa eats only veggies most of the time and lives in constant fear of food. she too doesn't sleep well, is fatigued, grumpy, and has hair loss. i would not trade places with any of them.

*Do you think you're eating more, less, or the same, volume-wise, than you ate previously?

i am definitely eating less...i get full more quickly, i am eating more dense foods, i am not a slave to my cravings...

*Since it's not how much you eat, but WHAT you eat that counts, what was a typical day's menu like for you, pre-Atkins? Plug this menu into fitday and see what the nutritional info is.

this will be my next post

*Have you always been confused by your eating problem? What I mean is, are you a determined, focused, hard-working, responsible individual who feels in-control of all aspects of their life except food and weight?

yes, i have always struggled with this. i still don't have it all figured out. i have identified my core issue with food and why it brings me such comfort...at least most of the time. my challenge right now is to remain conscious of my food and my eating and what's going on with me. and that is still a real struggle for me.

Thanks silly for bringing this up and for tellin me to get my butt over here!

Ive JUST two days ago tried low carb wraps, fully wheat ones at 10net grams

now i KNOW i am supposed to only have 5 net carbs on OWL, but well... i didnt lol...

i get on the scales daily, cos i like to see how things affect me, ive had one of these wraps for the last 2 days, now both mornings ive lost another pound, ive never had that happen! a pound a day?? now it could just be coincidence but do you think this is what my body needed? more carbs? I'm prolly only at about 30 maybe 35 now? i averages 20-25 before.

Emma, that's great on the loss, (goodness, a pound a day!? ) but it is SO important do be patient and introduce those foods in the correct order. Grains are the last rung for a reason--most often they cause cravings, many people have a sensitivity to wheat/other grains, and they are very high carb, compared to other foods. I suggest giving up the tortillas, and sticking with Rung 1. Patience is the key with this WOL.

I think your body is DEFINITELY telling you, "I want more carbs!" but give your body the carbs it needs right now. That means veggies, so add 5g more of veggies. Or, if you want, move up to the dairy rung, keeping carbs the same.

Emma, thanks for bringing this here. YES, I think you need the carbs! You've been at this for a long while I can't believe you're still at 30-35, I had no idea! Of course, you have been losing consistently lately. Don't go overboard with the wraps, but maybe it's time for you to bump yourself up another rung? Maybe only a few times a week bump carbs up and see if you continue to lose.

OH! I thought you had restarted with induction! OOPS! Duh. I hadn't realized you'd gone through all the rungs!

Nevermind then, choose your foods wisely, and start adding carbs.

No, you've been there, done that already. You've been at this so long you don't need to drop back down. Just don't eat the grains rung every day. Mix it up, but don't stay at only 30-35 each day.

so if i stay at 30-35 for this week, then head on up to 35-40 next week? or do i go up slower than that? what would you recommend? I will certainly mix it up more, i only had them twice in two days because the date was nearly up hehe!

Once again I apologize for my brain fart!

Personally, I choose to get many of my "extra" carbs from fruit. Along with my induction menu, I usually eat 2 more servings of veggies, a couple of servings of berries, a serving of nuts, maybe another serving of dairy (like a fresh cheese), an apple here or there, and sometimes legumes like kidney beans or black beans. I don't drink too often (but I enjoy it when I do), and I hardly ever eat starchy veggies. I've had corn once, and I've had carrots once--neither of them did anything for me, and it seemed like a 'waste' of my carbs. I do enjoy lima beans, though! I can't eat potatoes.

I don't eat whole grains everyday, in fact, I try to avoid them because I feel better without them. I probably eat a serving (5g worth) every 3 days or so.

I would add 5g every two weeks, but that was because I started doing strength training, and I was gaining muscle and retaining water--if I didn't lose one week, I wanted to make sure I could pinpoint the cause, or at least rule out CCLL as a cause.
